    a troll thread and a spammer or some bot that creates an account on a website. Or the anti-social act of causing of interpersonal conflict and shock-value controversy online. Purposely displaying hatred, bigotry, racism, misogyny, or just simple bickering between others. Trolls in my opinion are emotionally-immature users who thrive in any environment where they are allowed to make public comments, like blog sites, news sites, discussion forums, and game chat.

    Trolling:

    The art of deliberately, cleverly, and secretly pissing people off, usually via the internet, using dialogue. Trolling does not mean just making rude remarks: Shouting swear words at someone doesn't count as trolling; it's just flaming, and isn't funny. Spam isn't trolling either; it pisses people off, but it's lame.

    The most essential part of trolling is convincing your victim that either a) truly believe in what you are saying, no matter how outrageous, or b) give your victim malicious instructions, under the guise of help.
    Trolling requires decieving; any trolling that doesn't involve decieving someone isn't trolling at all; it's just stupid. As such, your victim must not know that you are trolling; if he does, you are an unsuccesful troll.

    Just to add -

    Disagreeing =/= trolling
    Being snarky, blunt, or straightforward (especially when pointing out a mistake or, again, disagreeing with you) =/= trolling

    ETA: I am curious why you'd come in a fitness forum and put a thread title with purging in it, then "wonder" about trolling.... Hmmmmmm

    also, just a friendly reminder for everyone who doesn't already know this:

    parody threads =/= troll threads

    parody threads are designed to make people laugh and/or highlight something dubious about another thread

    troll threads are designed to make people angry

    Trolling is a method of fishing where you put out your lure and pull it along, flicking it enticingly so an unsuspecting fish goes for it when they wouldn't ordinarily.

    Replace plastic sparkly lure with stupid *kitten* comments and you've got the Internet version.
