exercise and calorie intake

When entering my workouts, MFP increases my calorie intake to equal my allowed calories for the day. I get it.... but should I follow that? Or should I still only eat my recommended/allowed calories and expect for the exercise-induced calorie deficit to burn extra weight? I certainly don't want to mess up my metabolism, but I also want to lose weight, like yesterday.

It really depends on your goals. If you're looking to reduce weight, then don't eat back the calories gained from exercise (or eat back a fraction of them)?0
-
thank you! That's what I was thinking. My weight loss goal is 2 lbs per week. MFP gives me 1200 calories a day. If I work out for an hour and burn about 300 calories, MFP says I can then eat 1500. You think it's ok for me to still go for the 1200?0

I wouldn't stay at 1200. 2 lbs per wk is plenty and if you plan to keep at it you'll need to get use to responsibly eating more than you are now.0 -
You should be netting your calorie goal, so eat back your exercise calories, especially as you're eating so little anyway.
1500 eaten - 300 burned = 1200 NET.0 -

Long story short creating larger and larger deficits will not help you. See some of the examples my friend Taso has found for examples:Not necessarily, as starvation mode is a overused/abused terms. But there is a high probability that it will hinder your long term success.

WOW! Thank you everyone! I am finally eating and exercising to lose weight the healthy way, but was so freaked out about eating more than the 1200 that MFP is giving me.0
-
Thank you... I'm never sure if the exercises listed on MFP are accurate with how many calories are burned.0
-
I would eat part of my exercise calories, not all of then, as MFP overrates calorie expenditure from exercise, and I really cannot understand how this site, being so accurate about food, might be so indulgent about exercise: this may make people eat too close or over their TDEE, resulting in no weight loss, even gaining.
For instance last saturday, I walked for a while and my runtastic app estimated my cal expenditure at 346 cal, and since I synced it to MFP, it appeared as 346 cal. Then I check and add as new exercise same minutes walking at same speed and MFP gives me a result of 469 cal: 120 cal that I would have overate if I had added this walk at MFP not runtastic.
So I try to stay 200-300 cal under my so called calorie goal.0
