6 month plateau!! advice?

Hi guys! I have been trying to lose my last 6 pounds, and I haven't been able to lose anything since October 2012. I was told to increase my calories from 1200 to 1400 a day since I am close to my goal weight. I am about ready to give up, or go back to eating 1200 a day. Should I go back to 1200 calories a day or stick it out at 1400 a day? Thank you!

my BMR is 1422
I don't do much exercise ( I know that is bad)

I JUST got over a plateau and want to help anyone because it was killing me... I was still running/exercising and eating well. But only eating 1100 - 1300 cals per day (31 Male stuck at 209 lbs after losing 20 lbs)

I said screw it... I'll keep working out but add 5 more minutes on the tread mill and I started eating way more... 1800 cals... I gained a pound within a day or two ... but then after a week I finally passed 209 and settled at 205... still going down.

So give it a shot... eat ALL your cals (healthy)

When is the last time you ate at your TDEE?

Sorry for the late reply guys. I have no idea what my TDEE is, is it like your BMR plus your activity level? I don't do much exercise, do you guys still think i am eating too little?

And i think the last 6lbs will make a little difference and i will actually see the number i want on the scale. For some reason i still see the fat me that is probably why i want the 6lbs gone.

I would say jack your insulin levels by not dieting for a few days and then go back to your 1500 (over your BMR at least), it is not as complicated as people make it seem, or you could spend your time doing an elaborate math problem :D

The best way to get over a plateau is by mixing up your workouts; however, since your not a big exerciser that is what I suggest.

You'll definitely want to eat MORE than your BMR as that's the amount that your body needs daily. You're not losing weight because your body is using everything you give it and still starving a bit. Try eating between your BMR and TDEE for a couple months and see where that gets you?

Try more exercise... You may see a difference in that. Yes food makes a difference but working out does too.

Maybe you're already at a good healthy weight ? or maybe what you need is just to tone and exercise ?
that will do a difference on your body size even though the scale doesn't move
