Quest Protein Bars

I've heard about them but I can't seem to find them in my area (I haven't tried GNC yet) but is there anyone that has tried them? Are they worth buying?

I think they're absolutely delicious...when compared to other species of protein bars. Let's face it, the only thing that tastes just like apple pie is apple pie. I lucked out at the Arnold and scored a box for twenty bucks on the spot, but I've not seen them for less than twenty two-twenty five dollars a box online...and never have I ever seen them in a mainstream mall store.

Some people like them, some people hate them.

I enjoyed the taste, but regardless of their claims these are NOT a low-carb product, at least not one suitable for diabetics or insulin-resistant people.

Their claims of having low "net grams" of "active carbohydrate" due to containing indigestible fiber are simply not accurate. There's one report here from David Mendosa, an extremely well-respected researcher and writer in the diabetic community: http://www.healthcentral.com/diabetes/c/17/145742/trouble-fiber/

And there's many other cases like this. Another example: http://www.meandmydiabetes.com/2011/11/03/net-carb-vs-blood-sugars-the-quest-protein-bar-test/

If you're not worried about carbohdyrates spiking blood sugar, then feel free to try them. I enjoyed several flavors while I did my own testing before excluding them (as a diabetic) from my diet.

they are pretty good - taste wise I would say they are comparable to the high protein power bars

they have ball park 20g of carbs and protein per bar with 16-17 of the carbs being dietary fiber. I dunno what the above guy was trying to emphasize about diabetic diets, but I really don't see a reason why you couldn't eat these if you are type II diabetic, or even type I for that matter

favorite flavor for me is apple pie - ill usually warm it up for a few seconds pretty good. They have them at vitamin shoppe, GNC, and the vitamin store by me - you can also order them online, and they will send you a free sample as well if you want to try them

I buy them in bulk 12 bars for around 22-24 dollars.

they have definitely made me more regular thats for sure

Chocolate chip cookie dough is amazing imo. I heat it up for 15 seconds. Yum!!!!

AGREED! Choc chip cookie dough is the best! I hated it the first time i tried it because the texture was weird and i didnt expect a tootsie roll type texture. After a couple bites I actually started to like it. Now i eat one everyday because of the high fiber AND protein which is hard to find in a bar. My favorite favors are cinnamon roll, chocolate chip cookie dough, and banana muffin. My least favorite was the chocolate brownie. Hated that one actually.

After hearing all the hype over them for a year or so, I finally tried some. They're pretty gross IMO. Pure Foods Bars have similar macros, are made from real food, and taste delicious.

I liked the banana nut bars. I also tried pb&j (I liked this one second best), coconut cashew and the cinnamon roll. They were good, but not as good as the banana nut one.

I've had other brands of protein bars I prefer over these for taste, but the added fiber is definitely a deciding plus.

I absolutely LOVE the Quest Protein Bars, and I am EXTREMELY picky!!! I order mine from Amazon.com. They have a "Sampler Box" that you can order that has one of each flavor so you can try them all. I fell in love with the Strawberry Cheesecake, Lemon Cream Pie and the Chocolate Brownie. After I tried the ones from the sampler box, I went back and ordered a box each of the Cheesecake and Brownie ones. They're very reasonable in price, too. They are VERY chewy in texture...something my husband isn't a fan of. I love the texture, though, because it seems more like a chewy dessert to me! They are fantastic if you have a "sweet tooth" and want something healthier than ACTUAL cheesecake or a brownie! ;-)

Like I said, I get mine from Amazon...and I think that's the best place to get them if you're ordering several at a time. Not sure if you've heard of Amazon Prime...but if you order a lot of stuff from there (which I do)...you pay $75 a YEAR and get two-day shipping for FREE on everything you order. It's definitely worth it if you end up ordering a lot of stuff from them. Pays for itself, plus there are a lot of "perks" of having Amazon Prime...like free movies!! :-)

Ok...so this was totally supposed to be about Quest Bars, and I swear I could do a commercial for Amazon!! HA!!

Bottom line...I would DEFINITELY try them out!!! Get the Sampler Box and try them out to see which ones you like the best! :-)

Just for your information: Many diabetics that have excellent glycemic control, regardless of Type I or Type II choose to do so with as little as 20-30g of carbohydrate per day. 20g in a snack is way overboard.

For Type II diabetics the most-important thing to improve glucose levels is carbohydrate restriction, period. The science on this is clear and not in dispute whatsoever. Many Type II's that are on insulin can be off within 2-6 weeks of carbohydrate restriction.

Many Type I's are starting to follow a low-carb ketogenic approach as well to reduce insulin. This prevents extremely dangerous hypoglycemic episodes and better-stabilize glucose allowing for better glycemic control and fewer health complications. Type I's don't often have to go as low on carbohydrate as Type II's due, simply because of the greater prevalence of long-term insulin resistance in Type II diabetics that doesn't (often) exist with Type I.

Again, if you don't have diabetes or any other insulin-resistant disorder, or you don't care about injecting extra insulin, feel free to eat them.

6g of protein and 4g of fiber versus 20g of protein and 18g of fiber... not quite similar macros.

I like them personally, they really keep me full. My favorite is the coconut cashew one, but I haven't got to try the cookie dough one... there's some I really don't like much though.

I think Quest bars are positively vile. I couldn't spit the Apple Pie one out fast enough and was only able to choke down the chocolate brownie because I hadn't eaten since breakfast and we were at the beach, it was the only food we had. It was miserable. The texture is like shoe rubber and the taste like a Tootsie Roll. Gag. Me.

I love love love them. Cinnamon roll and strawberry cheesecake are my favorites. They have a texture similar to a tootsie roll but if you heat them up it tends to make them less chewy. I love the chewy texture. They are sweet and yummy and I feel like I'm eatong dessert instead of a protein bar.

My favorite thing lately is heating up the chocolate brownie quest bar, covering it with half a cup of vanilla ice cream, somw strawberries and a touch of chocolate syrup. My favorite dessert :) In fact, I'm off to go make a Quest sundae now.

Dunno where you got those numbers from. The PFB Peanut Butter flavor has 18g protein. Fruit & Nut (my fave) has 17g.
