I have had a lot of time to read the boards for the past 3 weeks, as I recover from heart surgery. Turns out I had a congenital defect that was found through testing after I had a TIA (mini stroke) or seizure. The hole was rather big and needed fixing immediately.:brokenheart:

This thread is about the immediately part! :noway:
Now I am not the picture of health, more like the picture of a middle aged-healthier than she used to be-jelly belly mom! But I eat well and exericse regularly.

One of the first things the cardiologist asked me was about my diet and exercise and overall health. I advised him I was on 1350 + exercise calories earned, and that brought it to approx 1600 a day. He liked the idea of 'earning' the addl calories and smiled when I told him what I ate and about my exercise and of course about MFP:blushing:

The fact I was on no medication, had lost 36 pounds in 2 yrs, my bp was good, had up to date testing for cholesterol and glucose (which of course they ran there too!) were all factors in whether I could go straight in for the surgery.

After reading the posts about the VLCD and this HCG shot ppl are getting, I asked the doctor on my follow up what would have happened if I was on a 500 calorie a day diet when I arrived.

The first thing he said was "Why would you want to do that??"
(actually more like "Vy vood you vant ta do dat?" He is Indian, and I love:love: his accent!!:love:

I advised I had not, and was not considering it..............that I was eating maint. cals while I was recouperating and would go back to deficit in 4-6 wks when my body was healthy, heart had healed and I could kick up the work outs!

He told me in that case they would have fed me for a week, and then ran tests to make sure my kidneys and liver were up to function.

I could have thrown a clot in that week my friends and had a stroke!

I did not get into it further with him as his office was full and I had a LIST of questions as it was

Poor DocMc:heart::love: who fixed me.........I went down my list and he answered each question!

I hope my experience can make you think twice about what you do to your body today, we never know when an emergency will occur! Or at least if you insist on doing it you can ask YOUR doctor what would happen if you were to have a medical emergency......auto accident.........slip and fall...........you can be more informed on your decision making and maybe even get a 2nd opinion from your PCP or GP!!

Much love and good wishes goes out to each and every one of you. I hope and pray for GOOD HEALTH to come your way!!:flowerforyou:

Love that. Good Luck with your recovery and WTG on passing on such very important info.

I tried that 500 calorie diet with b12 blahblahblah a while back a LONG WHILE BACK and honestly I couldn't do it, not because of the calorie intake but because it made me such a nasty person I couldn't stand to be around myself:blushing:
