What is the highest number of calories that you feel comfortable eating in one meal? I just read about someone who was going to eat 1500 for just dinner (not for a special occasion) and that is more than I get in whole day. I think my limit for a meal is probably 600 tops. Curious because I know it is different for everyone.

I would have to agree, 600 tops is a good number...1500 O.o that's a little excessive I think but I suppose it depends on what you eat, don't you have to consume a lot of calories while body building??

I can happily chow through 1500 for a single meal. That only works on free days, though, so I try to keep it 5-700 per meal.
  • mine is somewhere around 1000, for dinner. and only because my husband doesn't need a low cal meal. My lunch and breakfasts (if I have them) are usually around 2-300 I think. And my dinner is ALWAYS (unless fast food) the best meal of my day.

I don't have limits for meals... only for days/week.

I just make what i want to make and adjust to meet the day if necessary.

Hm...at one time, a few years ago, I was able to scarf down a couple of giant plates of pasta or the majority of a pizza in one sitting, so maybe around 1500-2000 at that time. Not that I did that regularly, but I was definitely capable of doing it. Now, I can maaaaybe eat 1000 calories in a sitting - which I sometimes do, on a few special occasions or if I haven't eaten much earlier in the day. And that usually is pushing it. Usually meals end up being between 400-800 calories for me.

However, I will add that it depends on what the calories are coming from. Some foods are easier to overeat on than others, because they're naturally calorie dense but, for me, not very filling (like nuts or avocado, which also have the added pitfalls of being delicious).

I try and average 500-800 on normal meals, but on free meals I don't count, I just enjoy. :)

I guess because I am being really strict with myself right now that seems really high because we have all had burgers and fries. It just seems like too much for me this soon into my journey. Plus I am in a percentage of body weight lost with friends and family so until that is over (and I win all the prize money) I want to keep being really careful.

I had 1000 tonight for dinner without any problem--it was just pasta, chicken, and bread sticks. 800-1000 isn't unusual for me for dinner, though. I've logged a couple of 1300-calorie meals (one 1450, but that wasn't in one sitting--had some pizza before a long run, then another meal afterwards and counted them both as dinner). One of the 1300-cal meals was a lunch out with a friend, and I remember that day I was so full I didn't eat dinner that night. So I'm going to guess 1300 is pretty close to my limit.

If we're talking regular run of the mill day, I have no problem eating half my calories in one meal.

I don't do it every day but I'm fine with half my days being like that. I'm also big on 25% Breakfast, 25% Lunch, 25% Dinner with 25% divided among 2 to 3 snacks.

Are you asking about comfortable in the sense of staying within the parameters of a nutrition plan or comfortable in a physical sense? Because if it's the latter, I'm sorry, but if you think that 600 calories could be the most you could take in you probably don't know enough about empty calorie and calorie dense foods. Have a Starbucks frap and a muffin, you're well over 600 calories already and could probably eat more.

    This.

During the week lunch is my biggest meal and it's usually around 800. But that's because of this whole pesky 'watching what I eat' thing. I could happily eat a 2000 calorie meal with no problems... apart from that I'd end up fat again of course.

I agree. 600 calories is my max for dinner. I ate a 8' thin crust cheese pizza from Monical's the other night - not worth it! I could have had a huge salad with practically anything I wanted and icecream. Funny - I get 600 calories and I still find a way to pig out!

I have eaten around 1000 when i was out with family at a cafe, but the norm now is around 300-500 anything more and i feel like i'm doing wrong and feel bloated anyway.

God knows what i use to eat to get me to this point but it would've easily been over 1000 on some meals, Half a chicken and chips or 10 pack of KFC pieces was a standard snack and atleast 2x600ml Ice Coffees a day.

I average 800-900 calories for lunch and 700-900 calories for dinner every day.

I ate a 1380-calorie brunch on Good Friday before a 15-mile bike ride.

My friends have no idea where I store all the food I eat because I'm 5'2" and 102 lbs.

It's easy for me to eat a ton because I work out pretty hard six days a week.

Last Saturday I went out with my fam at a local pizza place. Had 1,100 calories worth of pizza and beer and i felt like *kitten* after. It was definitely the most I think I've eaten in one sitting (less than an hour) and I decided I wasn't doing that anymore. I normally log like 400 for breakfast, 200-400 for lunch, 600-700 for dinner, and a couple hundred for snacks throughout the day.
  • The thing is sometimes you don't realise how many calories you're actually eating until you work it out. Tonight I'm having a sort of free day, and I'm having Chicken Korma for dinner. I worked out the calories in it this morning and there's approximately 850. That's for a packet of microwaveable rice, one chicken breast, and half a jar of Korma sauce. I would have estimated around 600 calories for the whole lot, so it just shows how many calories can be in a normal sized meal! (Well normal for me. Some people would have half of the packet of the microwavable rice. But who only has half?!)

I prefer 600/700 being the max calories for a meal, but sometimes dinner will reach about 1000 cals!

I regularly eat 1000-1200 calorie breakfasts. My dinners are usually about 500-700. Losing just fine.

When I am in weight loss mode, I shoot for 400 a meal. It has crreated a great habit for me. I add snacks or extras when my maintenance weight range is on the low side, then go back to my "basic weight loss plan" when I go over my target weight a pound.

Extras to me are more avocado or nuts. The once a quarter or so traditional fancy dessert.
