Are any ladies, besides myself, extremely nervous about lifting weights or doing strength training at the gym? I'm just saying, I am all self concious about it!

I was initially, so I go into free weights on quiet days and do weight machines when its busy.
You could always book a trainer for the first couple of times, that way you have someone to concentrate on rather than feeling self conscious, and also they will show you how to do it properly.
The other thing I find is that if I have headphones on, I can concentrate on my workout and ignore all the other people0 -
I used to feel exactly the same way!
To target this, I started going to the gym at the same time everyday so I started seeing the same people and felt less nervous. I also used to watch people to see what they were doing (and to see the correct way of doing it), that helped me feel more confident to lift or do the exercise properly. I also tried to ignore everyone in the gym and concentrate on what I was doing - I soon realised that no one was staring at me and no one even cared what I was doing even when I tried out a machine i'd never used before.

Exactly.
I think everyone's nervous if they try something new & unusual. I think boys are like that, too, when they are just starting.

I was....I just hit the weights room when it's fairly empty and do just machines at around 35-45KG0

When I was more of a gymrat, they had someone (for free) show you all the machines. Once that was done, it was easier to approach them and not wonder if I was doing it correctly.
Weight training really helps burn calories and helps your bones, besides looking well. Think of that also when approaching the machines. : )0 -
Do you mean machines or free weight? If you mean free weight/lifting, I ask the guys to help me doing it right. They are normally very sweet and helpfull (just don´t interupt their training, wait until they´re done with the set and rests.) My method is to simply turn my back at people and look into the wall. I forget they are there and concentrate on the exercises. I´m very new to free weights/lifting (started last week!) But I agree, I don´t think people are paying much attention. They´re all busy doing their own thing. Good luck being a strong woman.0

I used to feel this way too when I was the only girl in a weight-lifting room full of boys. Then I realized I have just as much right to be there as they do! My 5 and 10 pound dumbells might not be very impressive, but everyone's gotta start somewhere :-)
Agree with leahartmann, if you're not sure how to do an exercise correctly ask one of the guys during their rest between sets, or get a trainer to show you correct form.0 -
I am the same I haven't even plucked up the courage to join a gym yet! I'm doing NROLFW and have most of the equipment to do it at home but I think once I hit stage 2 I am gonna join the gym then I am hoping I will know abit more and have perfected my form and also lifting a lot heavier so that I don't feel so silly.0
