I do really well all week then at the weekend **** it all up - and if i don't i am miserable because i have had a boring weekend. What do you do to treat yourself at the weekend and not ruin a weeks worth of healthy eating and exercise?

I tracked my weekend for the first time this weekend. I found it pretty easy to be honest, I managed to fit easter egg, cake, alcohol and ice cream in.

I found the trick is to plan in advance. If you know you're going for drinks on Saturday night log roughly what you'll drink then eat then eat accordingly for the rest of the day.

I agree, the best thing to do is make sure you enjoy your weekend but eat accordingly the rest of the weekend to allow for alcohol or treats.

For example, I knew I was going to the pub last night for the quiz, so I was really good all day, eating well but lower calorific foods to allow space in my calories for a couple of cheeky vodkas.

It's all about moderation really :) It helped me stop getting too drunk too!!! Before MFP I'd have prob gotten through a bottle of Rose and most likely made a bit of a tit of myself in the process! So not only good for the waistline but good for the dignity too :D

I have the opposite problem. On weekends I struggle to meet my calorie goal for the day because I sleep in and don't get in my first meal of the day until noon or so. But I'm not up any later than usual (about 11 pm) and I don't drink. It's even harder Saturdays than Sundays because on Saturdays I'm usually stuck running errands a good portion of the day so I can't just stop to cook myself something.

what do you do on a weekend that suddenly becomes 'boring' when you arent shoving junk down your throat?!

you can eat out but make good choices, and you can drink with moderation without it harming your weight loss....
  • First I start off knowing that my expectations are going to be different. I am normally a little more active on the weekend ( running around with kids and errands) so i know I can eat a little bit more then normal. I try to stay away from the cakes and such. If I'm going to over eat on the weekends I want to make sure it is something worth over eating.

For example this weekend we enjoyed a lunch out at Texas Roadhouse. I LOVE their prime rib. I opted for the smaller 10oz and made sure to remove any of the extra fat pieces that were on my plate. Then I savored every last bit of that steak. Did i go over my calories YES I DID! However I don't feel bad about it, because I knew we were going out, I knew what I was going to do and when we done I knew we were going to go walk around the local mall and I had some shopping to do, both are extra walking activies that I don't get in during the week.

When I looked at my journal I still had about 1,000 WEEKLY calories that I had not used so even though I "cheated" I still came out on top and giving in to my weekend urges keeps me strong during the week. I hope this helps.
  • I am also a boredom and depression eater. As we now live in the gray and wintery state of Ohio (only 5 yrs to retirement and out of here) the winters are very difficult. Now spring might be on the way so.. activities will increase and it should get easier. I find that maintenance has been much harder than losing. How do I have one glass of wine or one of anything. I want to binge and stuff everything into my mouth. Saying no was much easier than having " a little of something".

I have been working on this for 7 months and I have not gotten better at it.
