Hi everyone! I'm new to going to the gym and I was wondering what machines you hit when you go work out? Also, how many days do you go per week and how long are you there?

Free weights! and the Assisted pull up machine.
I also am fond of the stair climber, for cardio.
ETA I go 5 days a week. I'm there for roughly an hour/hour and a half. Mon/thurs is my upper body days, Wed I swim and go in the hottub and sauna, Tues/Fri are leg/ab days. I will typically do cardio on my upper body days and then of course Wednesday. I rest On Sat/Sun0 -
I'll send you a friend request so yo can check out my exercise diary.
I go to the gym 2-3 times a week for 30-45 minutes including cardio, and sometimes do an hour long class. I am slowly increasing the weights. My most recent workout was on Sunday.0 -
I have a gym at work that I use (I work for a police department) so I only go on the days I work, which is 4 days a week. I use the elliptical, a balance ball for ab work and free weights for arm strengthening. Some times I will use a leg press if I decide to go light on the elliptical. I am going to start doing pull ups and chin ups using a resistance band for assistance so I can train for a Warrior Dash in September. My coworker helped me realize that using a bar or free weights is better than the machines as the machines do not engage your entire body.0

I've finally just started going to the gym again today after far too long!
I find I love 30mins on the bike, about 45mins doing weights including lots of machines such as my favourite hip abductor (does the inner thigh wiggly bits) and also work on my back/upper arms. I fit in another 30mins on the cross-trainer/elliptical and then finish up with a few free weights for my arms as well as a bunch of work on my abs.
Lots of people have target areas each visit, but I am getting into a routine at this stage so I'm doing all the exercises I like right now.
I would advise having someone at the gym show you everything and perhaps giving you an exercise plan. That's what I had when I first went to the gym and it was great!0 -
Free weights area.. first I start with my barbell and bench exercises, then I hit up the 20lb+ dumbbells, followed by "quiet area" where I work on my abs.. may hit up the treadmill or run around the indoor/outdoor track after. I don't always do my workouts in this order, some days I work out certain muscle groups first.. keep the body guessing.0

4 days a week, 15 minute treadmill run to warm up.
Free weights and some weight machines
Weight lift for around 20-30 mins.0 -
I prefer classes for cardio than machines0

Usually go to classes like Pump and Combat but when using machines I start with 20 mins cardio (usually on crosstrainer continuely increasing level) and then move on to a variety of weights, lunges/squats with free weights, TRX, kettlebells and finish on the power plates0

gym 2-3 days a week, using the machines and some dumbbells ( 13lbs and increasing as I go). I have a 2 part program, first is for arms and back, second is for chest and legs + both have some for abs. takes me about an hour or more to complete them with warm ups.
Also I throw in a a couple of jillian michaels workouts like 30 day shred in those days I don't go to gym.0 -

I don't use the machines as of right now.
I take a variety of classes(Kickboxing, Spin, Zumba, and Cardio Core as well as Kettleworks and Muscleworks for weights). I love cardio over strength training but am slowing switching to almost as much strength training as cardio. I used to be able to run(bad knees now) and used the treadmill a lot years ago when I was a member of a gym.0 -
I prefur the classes at the gym rather than the machines. I do body combat, body pump, body sculpt and zumba weekly!! SUCH FUN0

I run during my lunch hour about 5 days per week.
I also go to the gym about 3 times per week for 45 min.
During my 45 min I do this:
-5 min cardio warm up
-10 min upper body work (bench, flyes, chin up, shoulder press, dumbells rows, tricep extentions)
-10 min lower body work (squats, deadlifts, step ups)
-10 compound or core work (clean & jerk, knee pull ups, russian twists, planks on fitness ball)
-5 min stretching
I do half of my exercises one session, the other half the next and so on. I prefer whole body gym sessions, some people like setting a day for just back or just legs. I feel odd only working on one part of my body. I use free weights for everything except the chin up because i need the assistance. I prefer free weights because the machine's range of motion is not natural for me (I'm short) and it doesn't end up working the muscles properly. Also, sitting on a machine lifting something will never be as efficient as standing and also engaging your core/legs to assist with the lift. If the machine feels easier that's because it is and you don't get the same results (or it just takes longer) if you are taking the easy route.0
