Swimsuit suggestions!!

Hi! I am going to start learning to swim tomorrow.I dont want to expose my glutes .. But unfortunately the one that I already have is a gift and is a one-piece swimsuit like this- http://www.walmart.com/ip/Catalina-Women-s-Ribbed-Tank-Swimsuit/22175572?_mm=
Do you think wearing a swim shorts or skirt will make it look odd?
Like I am planning to get something like this

or somehting you can suggest?

I'd go with just the swimsuit and not bother with the skirt or shorts, once you are in the water no one will notice.

Yeah but even then I am kind of conscious :(

A skirt/shorts are just going to affect your performance in the water and will add more drag while you're swimming! Try the good ol' towel trick: Come into the pool area with your towel wrapped around yourself, when it's time to hop in the water, throw off the towel and BOOM! in the water you go. If you're in a group that's learning how to swim, HONESTLY, no one is going to be looking at your glutes or whatever else.

The skirt is cute though, you should get it for the beach or for casual swimming :)

putting skirt or short on top of one piece will not make it look odd. I have done it and I have seen others do it too.
    Go for it. Be comfortable.

I agree with the others that it might be cumbersome while learning to swim, but if you are uncomfortable without more cover then no I don't think it would look weird with that suit. It's cute!

Guaranteed that there will be all sorts of shapes and sizes there, go with the one you feel most comfortable in.

When you do your first flip turn its going to blow that skirt right off you unless it's on you tight. I'd say once in the water take off after your warm up. Just call it your drag suit. Its a common swim thing to ad more resistance that way, no one will care.

This!! Since you are just learning to swim it wont take away from performance, but dont go with something that will float up too much as you dont want it to get tangled.

    Good luck! Swimming is amazing!

My partner has that same swimsuit.

Are you self conscious because you are embarrassed by the way you look or that you are uncomfortable in exhibiting too much skin. Cause I think you look great!

When I first started in October 2011, I wore a 26W and my mindset at the YMCA was, yeah look and laugh at me now, but in a couple of years you are going to be looking at me in a different way! I've not reached my goal yet, but at a size 10 now I feel awesome!

And congrats on learning to swim! It has been my exercise of choice since I started. I love doing water aerobics and lap swimming.

If you feel you need to wear shorts, wear something very light weight and short. Once you are in water the length and weight of the shorts may inhibit your movements.

I would wear my shorts with my one piece swimsuits. It definitely does create drag, and if you are swimming laps, it will fall off.... If you are doing water aerobics, then you should be fine... I am self conscious in a swimsuit as well... The more you go without your shorts/skirt, the more relaxed you'll be without it... Start off with it on, see how it goes... If you are wasting more time trying to keep it on, then ditch it... Just do what makes you feel comfortable... I'm thinking about joining a gym with a swimming pool to swim laps... my own pool is too small

Which ever makes you feel comfortable. I used to wear a one piece all the time then went to the tank and shorts. But I really did not like wearing the shorts. They caused more drag and it made it hard to play water volleyball at my friends' parties. So for swim...I would recommend probably the skirt, just make sure they are a light weight material of course. There are a lot of different kinds out there. Just like looking through the kilts for lacrosse.

This may be odd to say, but the water may feel cold at first and wading is going to make it worse, it's better to just jump in and get used to it. So you might be better of just going in the one piece and jumping in. Besides if you start to have fun at what you are doing your bound to forget about your feeling lack of confidence in how you look. But which ever makes you feel better just do what you feel is needed.

I just got my first bikini this fall when I was in CA. And honestly I felt a little uncomfortable going to wear it on the beach, but it was the only swimsuit I had at the time. So, I just went out and wore it.

Shorts or a skirt or whatever actually draw attention not keep it away. I am sure you will be fine :)

I went swimming for the first time in years 3 weeks ago. I bought the swimming suit you are planning to wear and some black running shorts. It looked fine and I felt way more comfortable swimming. Good luck!

Eta: I just creeped on your profile and all I can say is you're gorgeous and if I had your body I wouldn't wear shorts.

The suit doesn't look all that revealing, but the swimshorts up in the righthand corner of the same page look real cute:)

I swim 3-4 times a week and I wear a 1-piece. I'm not the skirt type, but I did try some swim shorts once and they just got in the way.
  • Hi, the thing is my glutes are sagging and thats why I am ot comfortable with them. I am very skinny but all my body weight is on my thighs...
