Want to eat all day long after working out

A good friend of mine just started working out. His workouts are about an hour long and consist of lift wights on machines...not free weights. Ever since he started he is always hungry. He has an handful of pecans and almonds on the way to the gym. Then after he has tow pieces of toast and a pack of instant oatmeal. He said he feels like he could eat all day long. Any suggestions on what he can eat before and or after to keep his hunger under control.
TIA!!

He should ditch either the toast or the oatmeal and add in some protein and fat there. Then keep a balance of carbs, protein and fat for each snack/meal throughout the day.0

I can relate to this. I lift 2-3 days per week and on those days I find myself hungry all day. Best thing I can recommend is to have lots of protein sources handy and expect to eat more than normal. I have my eggs and oatmeal for breakfast, protein bar for mid morning snack, chicken or fish with a salad and potato for lunch, Herbalife shake with an extra 30 grams of protein for mid afternoon snack, dinner is about 8 oz of protein with vegetables plus something else like a potato or rice, night snack is pistachios and water. Lots of water and lots of protein and don't wait until you are super hungry or you'll go crazy and over eat.
How is the hunger on cardio days? I workout first thing in the morning and on my cardio days my appetite is tamed.
Hope this helps in some way. Good luck!0 -
I hear increasing protein is best. Cottage cheese or plain yogurt after a workout (protein drink if he is into that). Good fats like Almonds and avocados. I am taking 150 g of Protein each day (Average daily is 50). I am not lifting to get big but the added lean muscle mass will help burn off the fat. Careful with the sugars, they are everywhere and do not help hunger.0

It's the weight lifting and happened to me too. I wanted to eat everything in sight! I could've eaten 3000 calories and I wouldn't have been satiated. It will pass in time. Either he can eat and let his body build muscles or he can cut back on his lifting sessions.0

Going to step in here. First post
It is natural to eat want to eat after working out. your body is craving calories for repair.
Best choice is to consume foods high in satiety. While there is nothing wrong with the other foods, most of the foods are not as filling.
Cutting on working out will result in less energy expenditure.
Go for meats, fruits, veggies
Potatoes are one of the most filling things calorie for calorie.
People who say exercise helps stop their appetite are ridiculous -_-0
