Right my birthday is approaching and i have the option of a cheap treadmill or getting an exercise bike and im not sure which to go for!!
I have just about got room for the treadmill but will it cost lots to run?
I like the idea of the bike being low impact but then it only works your legs, with the treadmill ill get a full work out.
I want to get fitter and lose weight.
What would you do?

Just my two cents, but I'd opt for the treadmill simply out of personal preference. I like being able to walk or jog depending on my mood, and I've never been a big bike person. However, if you prefer the idea of an exercise bike, and want something that utilizes your upper body, as well, I know that you can buy bikes that incorporate upper body work. You might want to look into those and see if they fit your budget.
I'm not sure how costly they are to run (if you mean in terms of energy consumption). I have an elliptical that I use most days, and I haven't really noticed too much of an impact on my utility bill. You can also buy treadmills that fold, if space is a concern. Not sure about bikes?0 -
When I started I was using a bike and treadmill, I have now switched to an elliptical which is the best both worlds.0

Thanks for the replies!!
I have decided to go with the treadmill0 -
A cheap treadmill will probably be really low quality but for the same price you'd probably get a fairly good bike.0

I think it also depends on which one you would like to use better. Unless i am running i find the treadmill boring. I get my heart rate up better on the bike. Also the bike is helping me to lean my legs better than the treadmill.0

nooo bike is so much better! Run outside, get the fresh air and have a change of scenery.
it's a little more difficult to pull your bike out of the shed and not get hit by a car than it is to run along the pavement (depends on where you live as well, of course). There are cool apps to track where you run as well which is what I personally love. Where I live there is a local temple so I jog there and home for a round trip of 30 mins and it's nice to get out for a change
Up to you in the end though of course0
