Oh NUTS!

Almonds seem to be the #1 recommended nut here. I see "handful of almonds" recommended as a snack over and over. So my question is, WHY almonds? What are other nuts that are good?

At a guess, because they're easy to find unsalted and roasted, not horribly expensive, and mild enough that most people like the taste.
I can't honestly think of an unsalted nut that isn't healthy to eat (in moderation, because they do pack a fair number of calories thanks to high levels of monounsat. fat). Pick based on your personal taste, raw or roasted: walnuts, brazil nuts, macadamias, hazelnuts, almonds are the most common. Peanuts aren't really nuts, but are similar enough nutritionally.0 -

I agree. Also, companies have aggressively marketed almonds in 100 calorie snack packs which I think has made them more popular then say, walnuts. Eat what you like. The high amount of healthy fats are not only good for you but will keep you feeling satiated, which is why they make a great snack!0 -
Good to know - thank you.
I like almonds well enough, but walnuts are my favorite.0 -

I've got an idea.0 -
Almonds are my second favorite nuts.0

I believe that almonds have the most protein per serving. Not that it's a big difference, but...still. They top the list.0

It makes you feel full.
I love honey roasted almonds(or anything honey roasted). I tend to go for cashews.0 -
Because they are yummy!0

I think almonds have less fat than other nuts, which probably contributes to their popularity.0

I like cashews best. Pecans, walnuts and almonds are all close runners up.0

I thought it was because their carbs and protein are equal. And that most nuts have more carbs than protein. But I can't remember where I read or heard it.0

I'm addicted to pistachios, myself, however if you want additional protein, I suggest eating pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds. They have more than twice the protein of most nuts. I know this because I was looking for granola bar ingredients and read every label. Speaking of, I should make those, today. :-)0

Pumpkin seeds! I know it's not a nut but close enough! I found a bag of them and there is 18grams of protein per serving!!!0

I like almonds just because they're mild, but still have a sweet taste. I'm on a pistachio kick righ now. They were on sale at CVS a few days ago and I bought two big bags. Only 170 kcals for 1/4 cup which is the perfect size for a snack.0

Pistachios are good too, but you have to shell them or pay more for shelled pistachios.0

All nuts are good. Almonds are generally cheap in comparison to other nuts except peanuts. And they come in yummy flavors.
