I've lost 54 lbs. That's great, but it's just a number. So, here is a picture:

Sometimes it's difficult to get a good concept of what 54 pounds feels and looks like. So I compiled a list to remind myself what I don't want ever to carry around again. Here it is:

Things that weigh 54 pounds:
1. A 6-foot wide high-back red cedar porch swing
2. A small trolling motor
3. A 17-foot Delta Expedition kayak
4. The North Carolina record for largest freshwater striped bass
5. A 21x36x39 solid stainless steel "clean room" cart for biotech labs
6. A 7.1-gallon propane tank (full)
7. A steel base swivel-tilt office chair
8. Charlotte, a 4-year-old boxer-staffie mix
9. A 77x61 retractable physical map of the US, including spring roller
10. A tabletop potter's wheel
11. A set of 12 heavy-duty moving blankets
12. A 12-gauge steel rack to hold 9 bicycles
13. A hang glider with a 31.5-foot wingspan
And, appropriately enough,
14. A floor-model stationary scale.

Here it is, more graphically...each picture is 5 lbs. of fat:
