Anyone use/have Power Block dumbbells? Are they really all that? What's intriguing to me is that I can get a kettle bell handle for them.

I usually only use a 20, 25, 30, and 35 Lbs dumb bell anyway. So is it really worth it to spend that much? I got a nice 40lb set at WallyWorld for $20.

  • You'll have to decide if it is worth it for you. I have a set of the classic 50 pound dumbbells that I bought on Craigslist for $100. They are very well made and adjust very quickly. They work well for slower stuff but I worry about them for fast movement that is repeated for a lot of reps. For example they are fine for squats or presses but I am leary of using them for something where you are jerking them around a lot. I was doing some squat presses during a tabata session and the pins started working their way out. I was moving the dumbbells quickly and flipping them upside down and then pulling them back down as quickly as I could. That is the only time it has happened that I remember. The newer models may not have the same issues.

Other than that I think they are great. They are compact and very fast to change the weight. They are very well made and sturdy. I don't think I would have spent $300 on them, though. If you don't change the weights very often you can get by with a set that takes longer to adjust.
