Hi everyone, Just started 5:2 yesterday and started with a fasting day. No problems with not eating much apart from missing my crisps and choc but absolutely wiped out by 9pm and after sleeping 10 hrs felt disorientated this morning. Im not sure if this is because of the low calories or because my body is not used to that much sleep.lol. 2 hrs later. still feel tired but not disorientated anymore. Anybody else get this when they first started??

I've just been having three low cal-low fat meals a day and have soon noticed from logging that anything sweet you have takes me to my sugar limit so having to do not have any choc- which i used to have more or less every day!
I too, am finding I am a little tired from the diet and exercise on top! so if you are completely fasting i cant imagine how tired you are! You will diet better just by eating balanced meals- im really getting into good routine now with meals and no snacks- try a healthy meal plan instead and this should hopefully help0 -
I started yesterday too and felt great. I even did a yoga class.Did you have enough fluid?I don't have sugar or coffee but if you do maybe you were withdrawing a bit too.I have a very all or nothing personality so feast and fast suits me. I lost over a kg in the day!!0

Are you drinking enough? It's important to keep hydrated. Are you following the plan - eating 500 calories or complete fast? I think it's normal to feel a little tired but you shouldn't be exhausted. How are you breaking your fast? If your having too many carbs after a fast it could make you feel sluggish. I break with a nice big protein shake and I feel great the day after.0

thanks for your input. Think it was a bit of caffeine and sugar withdrawal. sticking to 500 calories on fasting days. 2nd day fasting today and drinking more water than first day and ive had a coffee with sweetener so hopefully be better tomorrow. Ive had low cal lunch and still got enough for a sandwich for tea.0

I've been thinking about doing the 5:2, but I'm kind of afraid my body will have too little calories. Do you still count on the 5 days?0
-
Please eat real food. You don't need to fast to lose weight.0

HI, You are supposed to be able to eat what you want on your other 5 days so at least you've got other days to enjoy. My bmi/weight/height says that i can live on 1200 cals a day. sometimes I dont eat that much and other times I go over. According to books you will still lose weight and be healthier if you eat low fat or high fat food on the other 5 days. I am still a newbie myself but just realised that if you exercise then you gain more calories to eat as you are working them off. think that is where i went wrong on the first day cos even a short walk, housework is classed as exercise. This site and phone app works all calories out for you. its great. hope this helps.0

Fasting is not just about losing weight but also health benefits. You are eating real food - you eat real food even on your fast day - just lower calorie. You should eat higher on your non-fast days - meaning you want to eat more than your alloted calories to lose weight. You can exercise on your fast days and some say they get a better workout when they exercise fasting. But you do not eat back any exercise calories on your fast day - you do want to make sure you eat enough the other 5 days to take in to account the activity you are doing. I find I do good if I do a zig zag effect with the 5:2 - I naturally am not as hungry on some days so I don't force myself to eat - I will make it up on another day though so my weekly calories will equal what I should be eating to lose 1 lb a week (TDEE -20%) and I have been consistently losing 1 lb a week.0

You're not supposed to do the fast 2 days in a row on the 5:2 plan. But yes, in the beginning on fasting days I got headaches, tired, hangry...but weighing in the next morning made it all better.0

And here I thought consistency was key....silly me0

don't do this. Do NOT fast. Fasting slows down your metabolism. the 5:2 will not work, because it's a 'fad' diet. Haven't we learned by now fad diets don't work? Honestly. Stop fasting. Eat at 1200 or more. You'll be good.0

A little research would probably disavow you of these notions.
I've been fasting for over a year and have lost over 120 pounds doing so. I would venture to say that my metabolism has not been diminished by fasting. As a matter of fact, I'm now in maintenance and have to keep increasing my calories because my metabolism is burning hotter than ever.0 -

The two days of fasting are meant to be non-consecutive days. I do Tuesday and Friday fasts, but you can arrange your days however you want, just not back-to-back.0 -

Thank you! It wasn't my plan it just happens that this week is CRAZY! Lunch/Dinner plans most of the week. This is my 3rd week and the other two were Tuesday and Thursday which worked out well and gave me the weekends :laugh:0 -
I love the 5:2 diet. And, yes, the first day is the worst. I've been on it for a few weeks and now I actually feel MUCH better on the mornings after my low-cal days - more rested, no headaches (which are typical for me), more energy, and a feeling of success. Sometimes I go up to 700 cal on my fast days, especially on hard workout days. And I plan my calories carefully on hard workout days so I have fuel before and after. I still count cals on my other days so I don't get off track much. Stick with it. It will work. It's very motivating for me even on the eating days.0

Your compassion does you credit but you really don't understand what the 5:2 routine is about - it is not a fad diet at all. Have a read of the info on here http://thefastdiet.co.uk/ and you will understand more.
It is a different way to structure your eating habits and is not all about weight loss and especially it is not about losing weight quickly.
By the way - I've been doing it since August and am at maintenance.0
