Weigh in the MORNING

I see people often freak out about their weight going up drastically and they get discouraged. My guess is you weigh in at an odd time in the day. I've never experienced the odd weight jump until last night and I thought I would share it with you for those of you who are addicted to your scale. Last night at around 9:30 pm I weighed myself because I had an AWFUL dinner but I was starving and didn't care what ate. (You can read about that on my profile lol). Anyways, I weighed in at 223.8! That's dreadful because when I started 2 weeks ago I was only at 220-221. I was bummed out but I was like HOPEFULLY it'll go away and just be terribly wrong. The next morning (today) I weighed myself as soon as I woke up before eating breakfast (I even had all my clothes on: jeans, shirt, jacket, shoes) and weighed in at 217.6. That is a 6.2 lb difference. I will never even entertain myself by weighing myself at night again. lol

Well, yes and no. My doctor told me that it's reliable both to weigh at night or in the morning. Never both, and never switch off. You should be weighing yourself at the same time (daily, weekly, whatever) because your weight will shift 3-5 pounds in one day. If you weigh in the morning, be mindful of the fact that you haven't eaten in 6+ hours. But if you weigh at night, be sure to remember that this is after a full day of eating! It's all about consistency. Both are acceptable times, but you will weigh less in the morning.0

When I was doing WW I weighed in a 6pm every Wednesday. Since it was the same time every week, I just made sure I was consistent about waiting to eat dinner after and called it good.
Now that I'm weighing myself, I do it first thing in the morning before I've had anything to eat or drink. If I've already had my coffee...I skip weighing until the next day.0 -
I actually weigh myself around 5:30 pm - immediately after I get home from work. I do this mostly because I immediately take of all my clothes anyway, so that saves me the trouble of taking them off and putting them back on again at some other time, and also because I'm usually starving to death at that time. Whereas I don't usually feel hungry immediately after getting up. I've never been a fan of breakfast. I don't even particularly like most breakfast foods and I am opposed to eating breakfast foods at any time of day other than the morning. I actually only eat breakfast because i HAVE to eat breakfast or I will starve to death before lunch. Anyway, I've found that this time of day actually scores me the lowest numbers on the scale and if I decide to weigh myself at any other time for curiosity I know to take it with a grain of salt. (And also it means I can't weigh in on the weekend, lol.)0

LOL
I think it's okay to weigh at any time of day, as long as you're consistent. The only way I can do that is to weigh every Sunday morning before breakfast.0 -
I'm a scale addict. I weigh almost every morning and several nights as well. I just know my night weights tend to be about 2 lbs heavier than my morning weight and I only ever record my morning weight. I also notice a big difference during that time of the month too.0

Lock it up in a closet! The scale can be a dangerous thing. If you're doing all the right things, the scale can be discouraging, still.
Look in the mirror, how do you feel? how are the clothes fitting? are you tone etc.... Weigh once in a while at the same time is my suggestion but don't live by it.0 -
I'm used to the fluctuations so it doesn't bother me. I get on the scale once, twice sometimes three times in a day. All I know is that I am a lot less than I was a year ago, so a couple of pounds one way or the other through the course of a day has no affect on me. I'm happy to have lost what I have and that it is staying off!0

It's hard to decide when to weigh in. I tend to do mine the same time every week on the same day just so I keep consistant. The one thing we have to remember is that our bodies flexuate in weight three times a day. Here are some of the reasons why: "It takes some time for your digestive system to process the food, fluids and salt that you consume, and the substances that are still being processed will contribute to your weight as well."-Fit Day.0
