'Uneven' hips due to broken pelvis.

Here's an interesting topic/question for you all...
4 years ago I was in a bad car accident and fractured 3 bones in my pelvis. Long story short I knew things were going to be challenging for me but I can honestly say that I am better now than I ever was before the accident. The accident kind of 'blessed' me in a way, leading me on a quest for better health. My issue now, as superficial as it may be, is how my body is shaped due to my pelvis being "shifted" from the accident. This is going to sound nit-picky and I know that I am lucky to be alive from what happened to me, but this is something that has bothered me ever since the accident. No matter how much weight I lose from eating right and working out my left hip juts out so far compared to the other side, and I might have even developed a mild case of scoliosis, so that doesn't help things either. It's completely noticeable in shorts and bikinis and I don't feel comfortable wearing these types of clothes (not to mention the 8 inch scar I have running down my back- it kind of makes me feel like a badass though, ha). At 5'3 and 129 lbs I should not be ashamed of my body but I am. I know no human being is completely symmetrical, but it's a crappy feeling knowing you have to buy bigger pant sizes because one side of your torso doesn't fit them properly. It's that way all around to my back too, it's as if I have one big massive love handle on one side. It just looks strange. I was told by doctors (before I even noticed anything) that I was likely going to be uneven on both sides and that one leg was going to be longer than the other...but as I've gotten older it depresses me every day to put clothes on.
I was told that my only route as of now is liposuction to 'spot reduce' some of the fat in that particular area so it matches the other side, because it's not excess fat that's the problem, it's my bones and if I tried to lose any more weight naturally I would still have this problem because you can't target fat loss... What would you do? I think that's an extreme route...but if that's what I would have to do then so be it. This is the one thing that's holding me back from looking the way I want to...I've worked so hard up to this point and I just feel like I'm going to be stuck this way.

Hi there,
I am in a similar situation! I was a in a small fender bender and always used to drive with my foot up on the dash. For some reason, it was always really comfortable for me to throw my foot up. Anyhow, I was slightly sore afterward but didn't think anything of it because it was such a slight fender bender. Over the next months I was in so much pain, giving up shifts at work. The only relief I got was from swimming. I had x-rays taken in Greece and they didn't see anything, but they gave me my x-rays to take with me. When I got back to the States I took them to a doctor and she told me I had a broken pelvic bone (5 months later!) and there was nothing that could be done for me, except "take it easy". Well, I continued in pain, giving up shifts at work and losing income, until a lady suggested visiting a chiropractor she works for. He didn't do manual adjustments, he used something called the proAdjuster. I visited him 2-3 times/week for a month and it made the biggest difference for me! So grateful for the care I received. It seriously hurt so bad to walk, and within a month I was up and going again.
Since then (2006), I've moved a few times and I've seen a chiropractor a handful of times, but none have helped in the long run with simply manual adjustments. I've found that yoga really helps. I used to rent DVD's from the library, and I attend Bikram Yoga when I have time/can afford it. Proper stretching after exercise, and a foam roller definitely give good relief.
My clothes still fit weird (but not as bad as they have in the past), so I totally understand where you're coming from. Sorry I can't be more helpful. I'd suggest looking into yoga, it helps realign your body and you can modify poses. I've never heard of anyone else having this issue, but know that you're not alone!0
