Juice Fast Help/Advice

I got a juicer a few weeks ago. I love being able to make my own fresh juice. I'm going to do a juice fast and I haven't decided how many days to do it for (maybe 3 or more).

> I really need recipe ideas that include veggies.

I've fasted for religious purposes in the past and had good experiences. If there is any other advice pertaining to juicing please feel free to give it. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm currently doing the veggie & Fruit juice fast to sort of "reset" my digestive system and also detox. Fruits and vegetables are LOADED with natural antioxidants (which helps eliminate waste, toxins, and damaging oxidizing agents that lives in our bodies). They are also loaded with vitamins that we need and are full of nutrition. The juice cleanse gives your digestive system a break from having to digest and breakdown food and allows the fruit and veggies to basically clean your insides, making you a lot healthier and gives a boost to your weight loss.

You can fast for 24 hrs, 3 days, 7 days, 10, or even 30, it's up to you and what you can handle. You've said that you've fasted in the past before for religous purposes, so you already know and understand that our bodies were made to handle fasting. I personally believe God put natural food on the earth such as Fruits and veggies to sustain us and allow us to live long healthy lives. We are the ones who invented man-made processed foods that are making us sick and overweight. We have become so accustomed to eating processed foods, we barely work in enough of the nature-made food that is beneficial to us! I personally am fasting for 7 days, eating nothing else but juicing. I'll decided after the 7 days if I want to continue a little longer. Today is day 2, and so far I feel fine! But I must say that I'm accustomed to it now because I've done it a few times. However, I remember when I first tried it, I was cranky for the first 2 days, lol. Look, you're gonna have some nay-sayers and hear things like "you'll go into starvation mode" "you're gonna put all the weight back on once you stop" "you won't be getting enough nutrition", "this is just another fad diet that doesn't work"....that's not true at all!! First of all, it's not a diet craze it's a lifestyle change... I could write so much more, but I suggest that you watch this documentary about juicing and how it changed so many lives. It's called "Fat, Sick, and Nearly dead" by Joe Cross. It's on Netflix. You can't juice forever, and it's good to learn proper nutrition, but fasting from time to time is perfectly healthy!! Please watch this documentary. It will educate you so much more and give you a better understanding about it. :)

Here's some juicing ideas you can play around with:

    All Berries & All Greens

    Kale, Parsley, Cucumber, Spinach, Celery

Beets, Carrot, Ginger, Parsley, Kale, Spinach, Celery, and Cucumber

    Orange, Banana, Carrot

    Grapefruit, Orange, Apple, and Ginger

Spinach, pineapple, carrot, peach, and mango.

You just have fun with it and decide what you want to mix together. It's all raw anyway :)

My advice would be not to do it. How would you be getting your protein?
What are you hoping to achieve by doing a juice fast?

Thanks. I was so scared to juice veggies and end up with horrible combinations. I did not know I could juice ginger.

I can get my protein from whey protein. I prefer not to discuss my reasons for doing a juice fast. However, I will say that its not for weight loss.

    > I really need recipe ideas that include veggies.

    Here's my favorite:
    2 Apples (273g)
    4 Celery (211 g)
    1 cup chopped Kale (43g)
    4 sprigs Cilantro (9g)
    1 Cucumber (291g)
    7g of ginger root
    1/2 lime (37g)
    2 cups chopped Spinach (58g)

I basically use that as my base and swap out the lime for lemons sometimes as well as the cilantro for parsley. After a while, you figure out which juices are better with or without ginger root.

You can't prove its not going to help me without knowing what I expect it to help. I thought you had real reasons for me not to move forward with it. If thats all you have to say, you can't expect me to take your advice.

Nope. But you'll probably get a wicked case of diarrhea:sick: . My advice, enjoy making healthy tasty drinks with your juicer BUT please eat sensible meals along with it!

you then want to try to say that no one can tell you anything because we don't know anything. So you ain't tellin' and you ain't listenin'. Awesome thread.

By the way, can you prove that it will help.....whatever supersecret thing it is you want it to help?

Idk why you're the only one who has an issue with saying why you think its a bad idea. I've already heard diarrhea and lack of protein. Neither of those people needed to know my reasons for doing a juice fast. I never said no one can tell me anything and that no one knows anything. I don't understand why you would put words in my mouth.

I wanted advice/recipes and I got that. I don't see the purpose in proving to you how juicing will help me. You don't think I should do it but offer no reasons why, other than it won't help me. Why should I give further details about my personal life to someone who has put words in mouth and finds humor in me asking for advice.

Not excited about diarrhea but, I doubt I'd get sick. Unless you consider diarrhea sick. When I fasted for religious purposes I didn't get sick. I've been making drinks for a few weeks, thats why I wanted recipes. The same old thing is getting boring.

Carrots + Ginger + Oranges = my favorite juice.

I tried it once... the juice fast. I lasted about 24 hours before I wanted to punch someone in the face, at which point I decided it was not a good idea for me.... to juice fast, or to punch someone in the face.

I'm not detoxing a poison. I'm fasting for spiritual reasons, but not a specific religious fast. I didn't want to do a non food fast, partial fast, or water fast. i've decided not to do more than 3 days and a minimum of 1 day.

I can never understand the fast bashing. It is a temporary restriction which can be very beneficial to the body. You are not going with out food for the rest of your life. I think a ten day fast is good. I have never went more than 4 days because I need to be able to drive. I don't think it's a good idea to fast if you have to drive.

Thats why I decided not to do more than 3 days because thats the longest I can free my schedule to focus on my fast. I don't understand why people are so against fasting either.

My advice? Don't do it. You will lose lean muscle mass. This will slow your metabolism and make weight loss harder. I have made that mistake before.

There are lots of juicing recipes on the net and there are juicing communities on facebook.

Please do not feel like you owe anyone an explanation or defend yourself for what you are doing. If you are doing it for spiritual reasons, all that is going to do is mess with your serenity and be counter productive.

You are on a fitness site and asked for advice on a juice fast, you are going to get a wide range of responses, some you will like, some you will detest. Take what you need and leave the rest.

I don't do juice fasts but I do make a juice and have it for breakfast every day. Then I eat "normal" food for lunch & dinner.

Just wanted to add that I've never had an issue with diarrhea - but then again, I don't juice fast.....

You may want to get on the rebootwithjoe website. It will have a lot of recipes and a community board that is juice fasting. I'm almost done with a 30 day juice fast. Been absolutely wonderful! This is not really the place to talk about it. I'm not sure why this board differs from other but people seem to be in attack mode a lot.

    Yes, wisdom at last.
I will say this, I have a grandmother is is pushing 80 years old. She has fasted extensively in her life. I can think of one time ever that she has had a health problem, and it was when she had her gallbladder removed. NO problems before or after that. She is physically strong, healthy as a horse, sturdy, and mentally sharp . If fasting were bad for ones health, she must certainly be the exception. I will always believe that fasting is just fine.

I think fasting is fine also. My dad does religious fasts and gave me a lot of good advice. I love hearing about elderly people who still have their health and minds.

This is not how you draw conclusions.

My great grandmother lived to 105. She smoked her entire life. See where I'm going with this?

A juice fast is a terrible idea from a health perspective. If it's a short one and you're doing for spiritual reasons then go nuts, or "fruits" rather, it probably won't kill you.

You're quite entitled to your opinion. I am entitled to mine. I have never once known anyone who fasts to suffer ill effects from fasting. And I have know a lot of people who fast. The smokers however.... well... the exception does not change the rule. Do you see where I am going with this?

Yes I do, and I know lots of people who've smoked and died from other causes. Anyways...

Like I said. It's not going kill her to do a short juice fast. Cleanses, detoxes, and fasts... all of these have no proven health benefits and CAN be potentially dangerous. The best thing for health is eating a healthy, balanced diet. The body does not need to be tricked into working better. It's just needs to be fed properly.
