I did P90X for a few weeks and stopped because I got pregnant. I ended up selling all my videos and equipment, and am thinking of buying it all again. My question is about the pull up bar. Is it a necessity? I thought I read somewhere that you can use bands instead of the pull up bar. When doing the videos, I didn't really know how to modify the exercises to use bands instead of the bar. Is there somewhere I can look to guide me on this? Or is the bar a must-have?

When you are doing the video Tony shows you what to do with the band instead of the pull up bar. So you can use bands instead of the bar.. But... There is a bar at wal-mart for $20. I just got it for my hubby.
  • The pull up is a GREAT tool to have, BUT you can absolutely use resistance bands instead & still get great results. If you indeed owned the REAL P90X rather than a pirated copy, then you noticed the workouts also showed Tony & the others using bands as well. That is to teach you how to modify using bands.

Certainly no replacement to pullups or pulldowns.... but bands are better than nothing.
  • i got my pull up bar on Amazon. it was super cheap. bands just don't compare.

I tried the pull up bar, but there was no doorway in the basement where I do my workout to hang the bar.(unfinished bsmt).
So I tried the bands for a while hung from a ceiling rafter. After repeated workouts, I never kept the same resistance ( I would always be a different distance away).

Instead I've undusted my York gym set and now are doing pull downs
