I understand that the scale may not move in the beginning of a new strength program... but what amount of weight gain in "normal"? I started NROLFW one week ago and I am up about 4lbs... Is this what I should expect? And when will the scale go the other way??? I am taking measurments as well, but the scale thing is driving me crazy!

Some people hardly lose weight at all once they start lifting, but the inches drop dramatically.

But to answer your specific question...4lbs is pretty normal, some people gain double that initially.

I trained a young lady (39yrs old, 5'2" tall) for 30 days last year. At the beginning she was 158lbs. At the end, she was 155lbs. But in that same 30 days, she'd gone from barely fitting a size 12, to easily fitting a size 6.

Don't worry about your scale...lift your weights and eat at a deficit, you'll be happy you did :D
  • Well that makes me feel a little better, thanks!

OMG! Me too! I love lifting weights.. And actually the first week I LOST 3 lbs (probably mostly water) But now the scale is going up!! I feel myself getting much stronger and my body firming up.. However, the scale does not reflect my hard work!! So frustrating!!

You are retaining extra water from the lifting, it's all good! If your diet is in check(and be honest with yourself), and you are doing the work, it will show. The scale may lie about it.

I ate at an overall deficit of 2100cal last week...and 3000cal the week before. The scale showed me 2lbs heavier this week.

Do not trust that thing, it's the devil.

    :D
