Sift out sugar&salt from oatmeal packets?

I eat Oat Revolution packets of oatmeal with flax seeds in the morning but I sift out the sugar and salt the best I can.

How would I get the new correct calories on this after sifting it out? I know I can't get 100% of it out but a fairly accurate one.

I know there are approx. 3.87 calories in a gram of sugar but how much would be naturally occuring in the oatmeal itself vs. the added sugar? hmmm.

just wondering .....

how would you calculate it?

do you do this too?

Sounds too much like work. I buy a big bag of old fashioned oats. Add whatever I like. Done.

I felt really old when I read this post since I still consider oatmeal in packets "new fangled". LOL I still make my own oatmeal in 1 minute on the stove with Quaker quick cook oats in the cardboard canister. 1/2 cup of raw oats contains 1 gram of sugar naturally and no sodium. Any other calories are from what you choose to add yourself. I still use a 1/2 T of brown sugar on mine, and some cinnamon. Hope that helps. BTW you can hit "add food" and search the database for nutritional info without actually adding it to your day.... there's a ton of nutritional info kind of 'hidden' there. Good luck!

Not looking for snarky comments just looking to calculate it that's all..

I'm not being snarky. There's just no way of telling you an answer of how much sugar is left.
I was taught to work smart. There is enough work to do, and you can get more things done working smarter IMO.
Plain oats are in the database.

This. Not sure why you'd do anything else.

Then do the work - don't ask us to do it for you.

Hell - I'll do half the work for you. How much sugar are in oats that don't have sugar added?

Uh... Really? I honestly am completely baffled. No idea how to help you other than to say it would be way easter to know what you put IN your oatmeal over what you shift OUT of it. I spent 5 minutes on the weekends and measure oatmeal in baggies with whatever else I want in it for the work week. Not trying to be snarky, I just honestly think that would be an easier option then guestimating how much sugar and salt you are shifting out.

What you are sifting out isn't trust salt and sugar. It is also oat dust and ground flaxseed. If you don't want the salt and sugar and you don't mind work, get plain oats.
