I have been consistantly meeting or under my calorie goal, but sometimes go over fat, sometimes way over. When I finish logging my food for the day, the calculator says I would would reach my goal if I continue to eat this way. But is it because I go over on fat that I am not?
Thanks
Thanks

Your body does not care what your calories are. That being said it's probably better to aim for balance. Eating no fat is not good for your brain. Eating too much protein can be bad for your kidneys. Eating not enough protein is well just bad I have been there done that and it's going to always be an issue for me. Eating too much fat might also be bad because you will be very unlikely to hit your micro nutrients. But, either way your body says 2000 calories is 2000 calories, It's not a whole lot so you should make the best of them with whatever macro nutrients works for you.0

For body composition, getting your Macros right is important. Being over on fats occasionally isn't terrible. Being drastically under isn't good in the longer tern. Protein has never been proven to harm anyones kidneys unless they have some other issue. I'd be more concerned if you are constantly over in fat, is that you didn't teach yourself how to eat properly. Yes food is food but you really should eat mostly "clean". Most of the diaries I see from successful people are fairly clean. Former fat bodies really can't be eating crap foods or they will likely become fat bodies again.0

Thanks for the info. On the days I am over on fat I am eating on the run, even if it's food from home, like PB&J. I tend to eat more in the car for some reason. It takes time learning how to pack smarter!

maybe lowering your carbs will do the trick yeah i would say calories dont matter but you really need enough to keep your body working properly and yes if your going over on your saturated fat that is a bad thing but if its the monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are good for you hope you figure things out0

If you're using the numbers set by MFP, did you set your loss to 2lbs/week? Are you eating back your exercise calories? What's your goal? If you're eating under your goal, you aren't doing yourself any favors.0

I have raised my protein and (healthy) fat intake, and lowered my carbs. Also the closer you are to your goal weight the slower the process. If you want to add me, my diary is open friends. I aim for 1800 cal (200g or less carbs, 100 g protein, 70 g fat). Is your diary open, and what is your cal goal every day?0

I tend to agree with this.
Being over in fats isn't a problem unless it prevents you from hitting your protein goal.
Also, if you are down to your last 7lbs then you probably have A LOT less wiggle room with cals and macros than do most people on this site. Take the time to get them right and hit them as consistently as possible.
Lastly, the last few lbs will probably take twice as long as the first several lbs did. Patience is even more important at this stage of the game.0 -
Thanks all! There is a lot less wiggle room being close to my goal. I definitely get plenty of protein. I do come pretty close to my overall calorie goal, but I do have the cookie or 2 now and then, I know that doesn't help.0

For me, the key to losing the last 5-8 pounds (always a challenge, and I put it back on when I stop paying attention to food intake) is to cut out processed foods and foods I know I react to. For me, this is grain carbohydrates like rice and wheat; alcohol; sugar; and dairy.
I've had good luck with a jump-start-last-5-lbs diet of lean protein, vegetables, and 1 serving per day of either sweet potato, oatmeal, or beans as my only carbs in a 40-30-30 macro for a couple weeks, then slowly reintroducing fruit, grains and cheese. I still have 1 serving of almond butter, olive oil or nuts per day so it's doesn't feel too restrictive. It's boring, but it's effective. I'm starting it today for my last week before vacation.0
