Every day I walk to & from school. It's a .66 mile walk and my bookbag weighs 7 pounds. Should I log it as backpacking or walking?

I'd log it as walking, if you were backpacking your pack would weigh at least 30lbs, more probably 40. Well done for walking those extra steps though! I'd aim for a brisk pace to up your burn - can you do it in 10 minutes? 8 minutes? 7? Do you just go there and back once or do you go to & fro several times a day?

    Walking....

I'm an avid backpacker...my pack usually weighs upwards of 10x that for a good trip...50 Lbs at least for a light trip.

Thanks everyone. I wasn't sure how much it should weigh to be considered backpacking

^^^no problem. Backpacking is carrying a pack with all of the gear, food, etc you would need for how many ever days you're going to be out camping in the wilderness. A good trip for me is about 7 days and my pack can easily weight 70-80 Lbs...a short 3-4 day weekend 30-50 Lbs depending.

I've only ever backpacked where I've bought more food every few days - we don't have the empty spaces you have in the US! Also all kit as lightweight as possible. Don't think I could EVER have hiked with a pack over 45lbs! :drinker:

    walking.

just think of the little extra little calories you burn as a treat (of the unknown).
