What Kind of Kitchen Scale to buy?

I've looked on line and there are some that are flat, and some with plastic cups. Which one do you have and why did you choose it? What do you use it for? Portion control? Just curious how useful it will be. Thanks

Mine is flat. All I have to do, though, is stick a cup or bowl on it before turning it on, and it zeroes out so it only weighs what I put in the cup/bowl. It's a Sharper Image, and I got it at Tuesday Morning for $15.
Scales are great for things that come in non-standard sizes, like potatoes or pieces of meat, and for items that don't fit snugly in a measuring cup, like nuts or chips.0 -
I have a flat digital scale, but it can zero out the weight of the bowl/plate that your food is in. I got it at Target for $30. I use it for accurate logging of food, especially meat. It really opened my eyes to what a 3 or 4oz serving of meat looks like!

I have a Joseph Joseph Triscale. It's awesome, and folds up small.

Mine's a Salter with a flat top. I like it because I can put anything on it (bowl, plate, measuring cup...) recalibrate to zero, and measure accurately. Mine goes up to eight pounds, which is more than I'll need but good to have the option. I measure EVERYTHING now.0

The biggest thing is to make sure it is a digital scale. Next would be to make sure it has both grams and ounces as measurements ( I can toggle back and forth on my scale between the two).
Beyond that it depends on how you are using it.0 -

*Hint: Personally, I always use my scale versus a measuring spoon/scoop/cup whenever feasible (mass/weight vs. volume); way more precise!

Mine is cooler than Perfekta's...

ETA: I guess I should add some...
It's great because it is a flat piece of glass. So it's super easy to clean.
I use it for portion control - especially for things with odd measurements or weight only sizing.
Like 1/4 cup of shredded cheese (Is that packed? Is that loose?) Or "Half an avocado" (What size of avocado?).
Or 2 oz of sliced turkey.
etc.0 -

Let's see you fold it up and stick it in the drawer!0 -

It fits in my back pocket - is that close enough to my drawers?0 -

Ditto, LOVE mine, use it daily, can switch between grams and ounces, zero out a bowl for measuring, etc.0 -

As close as I want to get to your drawers.0 -
I have a flat scale. I normally just put a plate/bowl on top of it and zero it out. I use it to measure and portion control. I like that it switches between measurements. I think I spent like 15 bucks on it0

Mine is not flat, and it annoys me daily because I have to try to balance plates/bowls/etc. on it. Its accuracy is questionable at best. My next one will definitely be flat, and have an easy grams/ounces converter.0
