Is sleeping longer making me tired?

For the past week or so, I've been waking up tired. I do Insanity and still remain tired. If it's my day off (I work part-time), I must have a short afternoon nap but that does not help. It's not been nice

We are a family of early-risers; not my husband and kids; but my mum, aunt, uncle etc. I've always woken up between 4.30 and 5a.m even when I don't have work (hubby often wondered why  )

I was just wondering why I'm so tired lately and planned to book an appointment to see the doctor but the only thing I can pinpoint is that lately, I've been waking up later. On work day, I get up around 6a.m; non-work days like today, I got up at almost 8a.m :noway: My husband and kids always slept in.

Now, am I tired because I wake up later? Doesn't make sense or does it? :blushing:

I feel more tired sometimes when I get more sleep. Usually around 6 hours is enough for me, or at least what my body is used to. I did get up to a decent 8 hours last year for the first time ever, but it was short lived.

    Good luck.

Thanks. I'll try waking up at my 'normal' times and see if it makes a difference

Were you feeling this tired before you started doing insanity? There could be so many reasons why you are suddenly feeling tired.

Low levels of B vitamins or vitamin D.
Not eating enough to fuel your day + the added workouts
Waking up/going to bed at different times might mess with your circadian rhythm
    Overtraining
    Etc.

hope your doctor helps you with this!

Thank you. I'll try waking up as normal for a couple of days and see if it helps :flowerforyou:

I have a sweet spot of 4.5 hours. Anything less or more makes me tired.

Ah! So it's rather common then. I thought the longer you sleep, the more refreshed you should get

CBS this morning did a segment on sleeping about a month ago. It basicly said anything over 9 could make you more tired.

Forgive me, I don't remember where I read this. But, I have read that some people just function better with less sleep than others. Some people can function off very little sleep, while others need more.

I personally need to follow the REM cycle, so either 6, 7.5, or 9 hours. Anything else and I feel sluggish and don't function right, but it clears after a few hours.

My husband, however, can function off of like 4 hours of sleep, and if he sleeps in too long (for example, decides to snooze till noon) he will be worthless all day.

I've found the more I sleep, the more sleep I need lol.

But I've also gone to bed at 8pm twice in 2 weeks, and not felt more tired that day.

I need around 8.5 - 9 hours. But I can function on 4 if I need too. Anything in between and I am slow to wake and yawn through the morning. I find when I wake up at the same time and go to bed at the same time (3 weeks to make a habit) I wake up feeling refreshed - also If I stay up till 2am (like today) I will need a full 9 hours and will naturally wake up around 10.45am

Hope you get it sorted, being tired sucks and makes me crave carbs! Ensure you are drinking enough water - with your increased exercise you will need more fluids

Thanks everyone. I went to bed after midnight yesterday and forced myself out of bed at 6a.m this morning (I wanted to lie in  ). I am not tired as yet
