Severe fluid retention & health issues while trying to lose

My name is Alice, and I was introduced to this site by my new nutritionist. My cardiologist suggested I join the Lose to Live program to help me develop a plan. I retain 4-6 lbs of fluid daily. If I miss the medication to control it, it can be as much as 10 lbs. weight gain. I also have heart, pulmonary & orthopedic medical issues that limit mobility and exertion. With that in mind, I feel confident that my new plan will help me to get my weight at a healthy level, and I will feel better overall. I'm looking forward to working with myfitness pal also.

Welcome to Myfitnesspal. I also have heart problems. But I am able to workout. My doctor suggested that i swim since it has less impact on the body so i swim almost everyday and use this site to help me with my food intake. i also walk on the treadmill and with all three i have lost a total of 15 lbs since may 25,2010. Welcome. I too had health issues. My goal was to get off all of my "fat" drugs: BP medicine, potassium and cholesteral pills. After 28 lbs lost, I was able to get rid of all of those.:happy: I walk for exercise, although I have to admit I'm not very consistant. :grumble: Good luck to you and know that you have come to the right weight loss program.:flowerforyou:0

Hi. I, too, have edema. Mine is from thyroid disease. If I'm not careful, I will also gain 10 lbs. (or more) at the drop of a hat. I do sodium-controlled South Beach Diet, and I've been pretty happy with it so far. Things like stress still make me retain fluid, but it's getting so much better. I hope to one day get off of Maxzide. We'll see.

I'm on Jenny Craig. It's a low sodium diet program which gives me 2500 mg of sodium or less a day. Sodium is so sneaky. I discovered that there were over 200 mg in a small can of green beans. I now use "no salt added" green beans. Well, welcome to the boards and best wishes on your progress.0

Then you have found the right spot....hey, everybody has something. Don't feel bad about your health issues....I have a feeling everything will improve in a little while after you stick with your new lifestyle changes. Good for you for listening to the doc and being committed! Best of luck to you!0

Thanks for the support. Swimming is actually one of the options I've explored. My doctor is axing that unless I have surgery to repair my rotator cuff. I'm trying yoga and using my Wii Fit Plus until I can do more. I look forward to it.0

Thank you and I'm eager to find a plan for me. I've been lucky that I've not had to face diabetes or cholesterol problems. All of mine stem from organ and bone problems. But, I'm not giving up in the least.0

Thanks for the support. Jenny Craig is a great program! My friend lost her weight on it, and she's never gained it back. Sodium is not my issue, althought I avoid it for personal reasons. My fluid stems from my lung cavities filling up with water and my heart doesn't pump correctly. I inherited the heart problem. But, I'm not giving up, and I'm determined to get better and fitter.0
