Well definitely avoid those chips and salsa! Those calories add up fast!! A lot of mexican places have salads so maybe see if they have a chicken salad or something with some beans and whattnot. Mmmm this is making me really hungry!! lol
Good luck0 -
salsa is very low calorie but the chips can add up fast as previous post mentions. I say stay away from cheese, have Chicken Fajitas with grilled peppers and onions eat one wrap then the rest without the wrap. is this a privately owned place or chain? I know Don Pablos has lettuce wraps instead of tortillas...0

The fajitas are a good choice as long as you do noteat the Tortillas. Just some meat, roasted peppers and onions and maybe a little cheese and sour cream if you like it. See if they have some lettuce leaves and you could have a lettuce wrap. Some restaurants will have a little bit of healthy food choices so try to check online to see if they have a menu to look at before you go. That is how I do it. I also LOVE chips and salsa so if I go, I give myself a few chips on my plate and some of the salsa and only eat what is on my plate. The chips basket is wayyyy to much of a temptation when I am chatting with my friends.
Hope this helps!0 -
if you know the place you're eating at see if they have the menu online and if it has the cal on it. So places in the UK do do that.0

I ate Mexican yesterday and managed to stay under my calories easily. I ordered the California Salad, which was a basic salad with chicken, avacado, and a house dressing (on the side!). Couldn't have been more than 400-500 calories for the whole thing, and that was just my guess based on the ingredients and 2 tablespoons of dressing. So check the salad section and if there are high calories things in it (like heavy dressing or cheese), just tell them to leave it off.0

Ceviche is awesome and low calorie and fat. If you don't like fish you can see if they have shrimp ceviche (most places do).
Stay away from the cheese! It can be a real calorie loader.
Fajitas are ok, as long as you avoid the cheese and sour cream.
Most places have an "asada" dish such as carne asada or chicken asada, and usually that is a piece of meat flattened out.0 -
I eat Mexican often. I go with fajitas or the pollo asada (like kdiamond suggested). I CAN'T/WON'T pass up chips, but I do pass up all of the rice and most of the beans. Mexican is my favorite, so I save lots of calories during the rest of the day0

This is a privately owned place and I've been a few times...when NOT on a diet. So, never really payed attendtion to healthier items!! haha. Thanks so much for the suggestions...I'm going to check out the salads and fajitas..I LOVE LOVE LOVE cheese but will be mindful and just have a tiny bit. (will ask for it on the side) Will post when I come back to let you know what I ordered!! I hate going with girlfriends because most of them will order yummy fatty high caloric goodness and then when it's my turn, I cave in and order the bad stuff. If they're eating it, why can't I? Well, not today, my friends! I will be strong!!!! hehehe!0

I think I did pretty well. Haven't added the numbers yet but I ordered an egg dish ( didn't have breakfast today)-- huevos rancheros and it was sooooo yummy! Instead of the 2 eggs I have them scramble one egg and a few egg whites for me with the red sauce on top and I had a small portion of beans and lettuce and veggies on the side. Came with tortillas and I only had one! I think I did pretty well and didn't even miss the cheese!! Thanks for the help!!! You're the best!!0

Yup... I caved and went to mexican food the other day and ended up eating the same ol' fattening meal I always used to get. Pollo ala creme. So stinkin' good! But when I got home and started to individually record all of the ingredients, it ended up being a 1300 calorie meal, and the sodium was through the roof! Bear in mind that even chicken fajitas are grilled in a ton of oil! So are the veggies. Maybe ask if you can substitute the so-called grilled chicken for the boiled chicken that they use in their burritos and stuff. Everything in moderation; not that I'm one to talk! Just think... if I'd eaten a third of the amount that I ate, it would have only been a 500 calorie meal, and I still would have been able to have a little bit of all the things that i love.
