Boobs question!

Hi everyone, I've been (seriously) on mfp for about 9 months now, and I've lost almost 25 lbs so far. My boobs have always been on the larger side, and i've gone down from a 34f to a 32dd (in uk sizes). I don't mind losing a few cup sizes, that's natural with weight loss, but what I don't like is how soft/saggy they've become. Don't get me wrong, my nipples aren't reaching for my belly button or anything, but at 25 I thought my skin would be better at springing back.

I have quit smoking to try and help my skin elasticity, but are there any other ways out there to help firm up my boobs? I drink about 2L of water a day so I'm hydrated, and I try to use cocoa butter to moisturise.

Any women out there who've lost a few size but maintained firmness?

Thanks x

MOISTURISER!!!!!!! Invest in good bras, don't wear them at night. I have pretty large boobs whatever size I am, but moisturiser really is important.

I hear body brushing is good - I've lost 30lbs and mine are actually looking perkier than they have for awhile - body scrub, body brushing and moisturize. No idea if it'll keep on ok, as I've got another 100lbs or so to lose but so far so good...

Thanks ladies! I'll keep moisturising and attempt some push ups :)
  • I am using Garnier Skin Firming lotion (I am having the very same problem, though I've only dropped a cup size so far, I shudder to think of the future) and it's working really well, nips even facing forward rather than down! My boobs were the first thing to engorge when I started gaining weight 2 years ago and are very saggy :( At 24 it's devastating. My reward for getting to my goal weight will be a breast lift, but for now my aftershock sports bra from bravisimo.com and my Garnier Lotion is preventing them from looking like an 80 year old's boobs!

I thought my boobs seemed a bit saggier too these days. When I first started losing weight that's where it all went first and I dropped from a 36DD to a 36C which is where I am now.

Might try some firming lotion to see if that does the trick

Me and my girls appreciate the info! I've never been super perky even when I was very young but yeah, I could use some help now. Thanks!

Yep. I am a lot older than you and dropped from 42J to 36DD. I lift, and found chest exercises (particularly incline bench press) have helped.

i thought you wanted to ask me a question....carry on
  • I took up swimming about six months ago and my husband does say that it makes them perkier - like doing push-ups, I guess, because it works your pectoral muscles
  • Same issue and I am only 19 :( the mistake i made was concentrating on diet and cardio. although i lost 40lbs i should have been doing weights, I went from a 38C to a 34D but damaged the elastine i guess, now i'm paying for it. LADIES if you are just starting or are at the beginning please take note and do your weights and chest exercises to keep the girls looking good.

Thanks for all the input, and I'm so glad I'm not the only one! :) I run a lot, and love to run outside so don't really use the gym a lot. Would chest flies/chest press with hand weights have the same effect?

Yes. I sometimes use dumb bells for chest press and I love flies. You can also use the chest machine. The heavier the better

Edit: put the bench on an incline as this works the upper pecs which is what you will need to target.

  • After weight loss, went from 36B to 32AA - I am flat. I have to get bras on-line with a little padding to look better. I am past menopause so... at this size, nips don't hang. The skin problem I have is on my legs. Since I lost weight, the skin on my legs looks bad. Does the skin firming lotion really work on this issue also???

When I started dietting I had been told this by a friend. Initially once a week I'd do strength, and my main focus was cardio. Now as I've lost a significant amount of weight [and went to a 38DD to a 34C/38B :( ] I have more focus on my strength exercizes (and no, I'm not bulky lol). My breasts are firm, perky, generally happy. I used a great sports bra too to prevent a lot of bouncing while running so maybe that helps too, but I've only started the "great sportsbra" this week ... before I was usiny cheap Walmart type elastic racerback ones a size too small to prevent jiggling boobs.

Oh yeah, investing in a new sports bra definitely has helped! haha I love running but without a decent sports bra I was afraid of giving myself black eyes!!

I don't have the money or the inclination to get a breast lift, a lot of my money is just going on buying new bras every couple of months, which at my size cost a fair bit!

I've gone from a 38/40 d/dd down to a 32 dd, nursed for over 2 years total, and mine are still quite perky - actually look much better now than before. I think a lot of it comes down to genetics and luck, although I have been strength training from the beginning.

I've read some of the long-term maintainers posted that their bodies continued to remodel and firm up a bit in the year or two post-weight loss and that the boobage firmed up some. Makes sense to me... your skin does need some time to catch up and turn over after weight loss. I'd wait a year or maybe even two before getting the lift if one was leaning that direction.

Look up on YouTube for some pectoral exercises. Your boobs are supported by muscle. Buld that muscle and they will be perky as perky can be.
Moisturise and use a SOFT brush on the skin.
Happened to me - but I am 65 and have good boobs thanks to this. I've lost 50lbs or so and I noticed that the "rack" was a little wrinkly (ugh) so I used a body butter, a soft brush (downward motion) in the shower and do pec exercises. It worked!
  • I was a 38 D in american cup sizes and have lost 25lbs since January. They've gotten smaller, maybe a 32 now, and possibly a C, but mostly they've just firmed up.

I was actually researching this recently, hoping to find some exercises that might help as I'm one of the "bustier" breed of ladies too. Unfortunately, what I found is that there are no muscles that can be strengthened to help with this issue. :( Some of you (not me, unfortunately) are just genetically blessed in this area more than others.

What is important is further damage limitation while your skin catches up with the weight loss. Press ups will help the chest muscles, which will give the illusion of looking firmer. Invest in a good sports bra (Shock Absorber are very comfortable). Firming creams may help tighten the skin/prevent stretch marks. You're still young, the skin has more of a chance to spring back.

The mammy's were the first thing I lost. I went from DD to D in weeks. I use a product called Palmers' for Stretch Marks. It's a thick moisturizer and it helps with the stretch marks. I have also been doing push ups, swimming and lifting.
Because of the pectoral and shoulder exercises I have been able to develop the muscle underneath and that is helping in the fight. Like you, I don't want my boobs at my belly button or below. THAT would be just not cool. I'm not old, but I'm not a spring chicken either so I use lotion that gives help with the elasticity of my skin. It's working. ;o)

breast lift. Sorry, saggy boobs don't magically perk up.

    Yep
  • Everyone's elasticity is really different. I am like you and I exfoliate, moisturise and support my boobs day and night with bras. There isn't much you can do about the skintype you are no matter what age. But the good news if you want to look at a silver lining is that my boobs haven't changed from me being 21 when they first went "floppy" (after breastfeeding) to now being 39. Just look after them well and it won't get worse!
  • I'm not sure that firming lotion is actually much better than just normal moisturiser, palmers for stretch marks is good but in my experience not as good as bio-oil (which is ridiculously expensive but good on small areas!) on any marks / stretches. I find Jergens and Nivea really good too. None of these things will work miracles though!!!

My best best best advice is to get measured in a reputable store, where you are actually gonna buy the bras from because I'm a different size according to the store and invest in really good quality bras and also REALLY good quality sports bra is not to be underestimated! It'll stop those babies moving around and stretching the skin more! Allow them to swing low and free in the evening though!

    It's always worked for me!!!

    xx

I measured today and have lost 2 inches on mine from 34 to 32... thing is I'm only a B so it can sod off when I still have loads of inches left on my thighs/ bum :P.

Push ups and use free weights, I use 3kg and helps tone the arms but you can do exercises for the chest too. I'm 32 and although gravity doesn't have a lot to pull at I'm still quite perky xx

The exercises people have mentioned that strengthen chest muscles will help SOME, but they will not completely make boobs firm and perky. It's a fact of aging that breasts get saggier as the years pass. You can try to slow this progress, but they WILL become softer and droopier as you age. Of course, there's always plastic surgery. :-/

I wear two bras to the gym. We have ligaments in our breasts, and bouncing wears them out.
