Trouble with FT4 HRM

For the last 3 days, I've had trouble with my Polar FT4. It'll be working great, then all of a sudden my heart rate will show 190 or above, then 00. I adjust the band etc. It'll finally work again, then do the same thing. It's maybe 6 months old and has been fine. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this a battery issue??

    bump
  • Mine did that last summer, the only thing I could figure out is that when it's hot with a high humidity it affected it more. I have no idea why that affected it but it did not do it at all when the weather got cooler.

I have the polar FT7 and I have had this problem a couple times and mine is only 3 months old. Two things that I think may have caused this - 1: I tightened the strap and it fixed the problem 2: I gave the band a good wash with soap and water. I rinse it off after every use but I am sure I was guilty of going longer than 5 uses before I washed it. I am not sure if it was caused by either one of these things but the problem was rectified! Good luck!

Also make sure it is really wet for good contact and in the right posistioning.

i've found with the new style strap (elastic strap next to your skin instead of the actual sensor) doesn't work as well as the old style.

with the new style i have to use gel while the old strap i never had that issue.

once i started using gel with the new style strap i've never had super high then zero readings again.

Go to a Batteries Plus and have them check the battery. That's probably what it is.

I'm having the same problem after about 6 months. - very frustrating!

I replaced both batteries, and I've started rinsing out the strap after every use. I also throw the strap in the washing machine after swimming - I just stick in a pouch and throw it in with my suit.

It helps to make sure the strap is wet so the transmitter makes good contact with your skin. I've started doing that recently too, although I'm not sure why it's helping since I sweat a LOT when I work out.

If it keep us I'm going to scrap it, bite the bullet, and go with a Garmin or some other brand. VERY frustrating since they're not cheap!

good advice. I will try tightening the strap first. I also always wet the contacts before putting it on, and wipe it off after each use. I've never really washed it. Gonna try all those things before I go hunting for a better. Thanks all!
