How Does Gluten Free Diet Make U Lose Weight

Hello,

I was just wondering how a gluten free diet makes you lose weight? Like a person still eats food right? And they can still eat their maintenance on a gluten free but I've seen many people (non ciliac) try the gluten free diet and just start miraculously dropping the weight and some ALOT of it too. Should I try going gluten free??? I'm type one diabetic, hypothyroid and I have 15lbs to lose or lose less but have body comp change to from heavy lifting to fit into my old size of clothes. (prepreg clothes I call them)

What do you guys know about this? Thanks

    It doesn't. Eating at a calorie deficit does. If you're diabetic, you may find that a lower glycemic eating style suits you. But if you go GF, watch your sugars, as many GF replacement foods are ridiculously high in added sugars and faster carbs.

    Going gluten free just to lose weight is crazy. Its incredibly hard and restricting to be 100% GF (especially at the beginning), and often people end up gaining weight because they buy the replacement foods instead of just cutting gluten out.

    The major up-side is that if you go GF and do not buy the replacement foods, you're eating a fairly "clean" natural diet, because gluten IS IN EVERYTHING. And of course if you actually have an intolerance/sensitivity or Celiacs, then you'll be feeling a whole lot better. But for weight loss? There are far easier ways to go about it.

    It doesn't make you lose weight. BUT, people who go gluten free tend to lower their overall carb intake which will cause a slight decrease in water retention and therefore a few pounds will be shed.

    I have a moderate sensitivity to gluten so that is why I limit it. Also, I used to overeat a lot of gluten containing foods, by reducing gluten I reduced those foods and the overeating in my diet so therefore I started to lose weight.... really had nothing to do with the gluten it was just a matter of removing binge triggering foods and then learning to eat them in moderation.

    it does not. it is for people who can not digest gluten, no weight loss magic this diet. in fact many gluten free options are even higher in calories. Its not a weight loss diet at all. meant just for people who have gluten sensitivities, no use otherwise.

    The gluten free diet does not make you lose weight. People hear the term "diet" and assume "weight loss" and jump on it.

    I gained all my weight while gluten free. Most of the packaged products have more calories, more fat and less fiber and other good stuff. My doctor has had me change my meds so I can get off of the gluten free and eat "normal" products again in hopes of leveling out my weight.

    I've lose a few pounds (and a lot of inches!) on a gluten free diet, but most people who go GF gain weight because they end up replacing wheat with processed GF products that are more calorie dense.

    Like others have mentioned, eating at a deficit helps you lose weight. Cutting out breads and pastas from my diet does help me maintain a deficit because those are very calorie dense foods and I'm replacing them with lower calorie foods (lean protein, plain greek yogurt, eggs, bananas, etc.). More than the weight loss though, I have lost inches from my waist (went from 30" to 27.5" in the one month I've been GF), which is better explained by water retention, the way my body was storing fat, or inflammation (I have Crohn's disease and cut out gluten to see if it improved my symptoms). I wasn't exercising during this time because I was recovering from surgery.
