Tasting different than before, what about you?

I used to be ADDICTED to diet dr. pepper. I tried it the other day and I hated it. YEY!
I also don't like, hold on to your pants, Oreos?! What has happened to me? I don't like the cream anymore, it tastes like pasty sugar and it isn't pleasant.
Curious if others that have changed their habits have anything interesting to add.

I find myself craving more healthy choices than before, and enjoy fresh stuff way more than previously. Certain processed stuff esp biscuits etc taste more 'chemically' now that I am eating much cleaner than before0

I have just started (again after a few years of slacking) so I'm not there yet but yes, when in the groove and eating clean, food does taste different. It's a good thing!0

Definitely! Most sweets just don't taste the same anymore. And my stomach gets really mad at me because it's used to clean eating. Not complaining lol0

Even at my fattest I wouldn't eat oreos. The cream part tasted like pure Crisco to me. Left a greasy slime in my mouth too.
I'm on a med that takes my entire sense of taste away. You'd think that would keep me from eating things that are bad for me, but it doesn't.0 -

Yes. I CANNOT eat more than a bite or so of cake---it is nauseatingly sweet to me. I have been totally off of sugary foods (or any added sugar in anything) for about three years. Occasionally, I will be persuaded to have a tiny wedge of dessert and I usually don't take more than a bite before stopping. I was brought up eating good wholesome food but I also ate a lot of sweets too. Now, the sweets seem very unappealing---not sure why I ever liked them, but I surely don't now.0 -
I fine the same to be true for me also. must process foods do not seem to taste as good as I thought. i find the Iam liking real foods better.0

That's the other thing that I find difficult to eat now. The other day, I went to East Side Mario's with friends. I thought the scallop/shrimp salad would be a safe choice over their many pasta dishes. I thought it tasted pretty salty but I was hungry so I ate it anyway. When I got home, I looked up the nutritional content on their website (most of the chains have this information on their websites now). I was shocked to see that there was 1,800 mg. of sodium (and 13 grams of sugar too). That's OVER a typical DAY's supply of sodium for me! I suppose they put the sugar in to cover the salty taste (or maybe they put the salt in to cover the sugary taste). It is an old chef's trick to add sugar to a dish that he has oversalted (and vice versa). Only, in this case, it was deliberate. :grumble:0 -
used to love alfredo sauce. i could have eaten it by the jar(with pasta or other food). now i find it incredibly plain and much less tasty
than before, unless i also put chipotle or some other interesting flavor in it.
I used to hate brussel sprouts. I can eat them by the bag now, roasted, steamed, love them.
love grape fruit, and almost anything packaged tastes extremely too sweet or too salty.
Weeks ago I was just really afraid of spicy peppers, cooking with them, eating them myself ,
really spicy hot sauce. now I love it, and the only thing is how annoying it is when my lips are on fire
and my tastebuds are like, where's the fire at?0 -
I'm not there yet. But 'healthier' versions of unhealthy things so far have been a pretty good substitute for the real things.0

Alot of food when I eat out tastes waaaay to salty. Chocolate tastes ridiculously sweet, feels like my teeth are going to melt lol0

It has been probably about a year since I fate it regularly, but I used to eat Nutella out of the jar with a spoon. I don't even remember the last time I had it, but I remember thinking it was way too sweet. I still like it when I don't eat too much of it, but I don't know what I was thinking eating it with a spoon!! :laugh:0

since i started dieting, potatos are suddenly a huge turn off for me. and also i used to eat fried pork steak and the other day i ate one bite of my sisters and all i tasted was grease. it was so discusting.0

I used to hate grapefruit but after cutting out most sugar for a few months I guess my taste buds have changed because now I LOVEEEEEEE grapefruit!! I look forward to having one every day!0

I still like my diet dr. pepper....BUT I can't stand things like lays potato chips anymore or cheetos....I just taste salt and fakeness. I also like veggies that I never did previously...like zucchini and onions.0

I can't eat anything deep fried or anything overly salted now. Happiest when I'm eating healthy and balanced. Still haven't lost my taste for sugar, not sure if I ever will.0

A similar thing happened to me the other day. I couldn't make time to prep lunch before work so I bought lunch. I went to Moe's southwest grill, which if you're not familiar with is a Subway type of establishment but with mexican food. I got a healthy lunch-- a burrito bowl that just consisted of chicken and lots of vegetables. They always give you free chips but I said no to the chips.
Of course my friend I went with got chips, salsa and queso dip with her meal. If you've never had their queso before, it is GODLY. I mean I could eat an entire bowl of this stuff. A reason I never go in there anymore is because I don't want to be tempted with their holy freakin' delicious queso.
Anyway, of course my friend offered me some chips and of course I couldn't say no. I had some of her queso too, and it had this funny chemical taste to it that was unfamiliar to me. I don't know if maybe it was just this one particular batch that was "off" or because I hadn't eaten it in months and I am truly now tasting it for what it is. I ate it anyway, but it definitely didn't taste like it used to in my head. The stomach ache that followed shortly thereafter put an even bigger damper on the whole situation.0 -
I used to hate artificial sweeteners, but since real sugar has soooo many calories, I found what I could tolerate, and eventually my tastes changed.0

I think, for me, it is more about what I desire to eat... My taste buds will truly WANT whole, unprocessed foods. I actually WANT fruit over processed sweets. I think its because i have begun to focus on food a fuel and nutrition not as something to to soothe my feelings or relieve boredom. I find if i focus on eating my macros i dont let the idea/ taste of my old indulgences sway me.
However, i did have Maggianos at a catered office function, many many months ago.. . The pasta was too oily and salty and the dessert cream left a waxy feel in my mouth and it didn't taste good.. I actually spit it out and threw the rest away!
My favorite Ben and Jerry's ice cream is super sweet and a 1/2 cup serving usually is sufficient for me.0 -
