Caesin vs Whey

SO I have read something's online pertaining to the two different types of protein powders. My question is while I know Casein protein is best taken while you sleep as it is a slow release, I workout right after my third shift job and then I go to sleep for about 5 hours about 45 min after my workout. I am lifting Heavy 4 days a week and on Wednesdays I do a longer cardio session. I normally down a protein drink before I go to sleep. Should I invest in the Casein or should I keep going with the Whey? Thoughts?

Buy a small amount and see if you can stomach it. Its so thick that a lot of people hate it. Other alternatives before you go to bed are dairy produces like milk and cottage cheese. Most of the protein in these products is Caesin based anyway.

it doesnt matter at all. you dont need to eat before bed and you certainly dont need to eat slow releasing protein before bed. these are old school bodybuilding myths that have been debunked.

The only reason I eat before bed is because its RIGHT after my workout and I try to get in at least 30gs of protein within a 30 min window.
Thank you for your responses! It really helps to get others opinions. I never knew the casein was thick.. I prolly wouldn't like that lol!

Go with whey. It's cheaper, easier to find, and most people find it tastes better. There is no advantage to casein.

The whole "casein before bed" is an old bodybuilding myth that supplement companies like to spout. "Don't let you hard work go to waste, give your body slow, timed release protein during the night using casein protein" etc etc

You don't need to buy casein at all. Stick with whey. Protein is determined by two markers: the Biological Value (BV) and the protein-digestibility amino acid score (PCDAAS). Whey (concentrate and isolate) beats casein in terms of quality - the BV is 104-159 and PCDAAS is 1, whereas casein has a BV of 71 and an equal PCDAAS of 1. Personally not a fan of casein as well.
If you want to slow absorption of whey, just add some fats and/or carbs. You'll get a similar effect from that (the slow release) but with a better quality source of protein. Microwave some oats and add a scoop of chocolate whey, or add milk and/or a banana to your whey before bad and you'll get a slower release.

cottage cheese works really well for a protein for me too.
I have to buy non-whey stuff but casein doesn't bother me.
Cheese is cheaper and tastier and less sugar than protein powders :)

Have followed bodybuilding since I started in fitness ('83). I can emphatically say that the casein before bed is broscience at it's best.
