Road Biking Victory

21 years ago was the last time I rode my road bike. And not very much at that.

Last summer, I started riding a mountain bike, waiting for the day I could get back on my road bike. I was concerned about my excessive weight on the narrow tires.

This spring, riding my mountain bike for long distances was excruciating. But, I have shed enough weight that I felt I could try my road bike again.

In the past two days, I have ridden my road bike for the first time in 21 years. It was exhilarating!!! Yesterday, my initial ride was 15 miles. Today I added 3 miles to that distance.

My only regret: next weekend is my 47th birthday. I don't think I will be ready to do a birthday ride next weekend. Next year that WILL happen!

Great work! You can still do a birthday ride .... maybe scaled down a bit but you can definitely do it. I'm looking forward to the day I can buy a road bike.

Good job! I keep saying that I am going to take my Road bike to the shop just to get everything checked out since I have never ridden it since I purchased it 2 years ago. I never take it so that is great that you got on and put in 15 to 18 miles. Tuesday - I will take my bike in on Tuesday, hopefully.

That is fantastic and I bet you are as happy as I am that I am riding a tricycle. I have not been on a bike in over 40 years and this month I got a tricycle and today my 4th time on it I rode 2.47 miles and I feel so thrilled I did. You should do your Birthday ride but make it 23 miles. Next year you can do the whole 48 miles.

I can relate to that, I started riding on my mtb with a goal of loosing enough weight to get back onto my roadie, I have been on the roadie about 2 months now and loving it, well done and keep the dream alive.

Nice! How about kilometers for your birthday ride instead of miles? That would come out to 29.2 miles, which seems possible if you can already do 18. Maybe pack a snack, so 18 or 20 miles, take a nice long break and have something to eat, then do the last bit.

But whether that's a good idea or not right now, by all means enjoy your return to road biking, and congratulations!

Congratulations! It seems like riding a bicycle is a common goal on here. I recently took my first ride in twenty plus years. Keep up the good work!

Sheila: If you haven't ridden it since buying it, I would say everything should be in tip-top condition. Put some air in the tires and go for it!!! You will be so excited that you did!!!!

ssflbelle: When I started on my mountain bike, I literally was only able to go 2 miles. My last ride on my mountain bike was 13 miles. Keep at it and just strive to go further (even if only a hundred yards) each time you ride. Before you know it you will piling on the miles.

I purchased it used. It is a great Italian bike. I think I bought it two years ago. I didn't take it in on Tuesday like I wanted. I think I will take it down and make sure the tires aren't dry rotted. I would hate to go down a hill on the Blue Ridge Parkway and my tire blow out. Uphill will be slow so no worries there. :-) Happy belated Birthday!
