Kidneys.... they hurt

I need some advice. Lately I've been having some pain in my kidneys. It's kind of a dull pain that lessens if I drink more water. I'm afraid that I might be taking in too much protein or something??? Not sure. I'm on a medication called Topamax and it hits the kidneys really hard so I have to be careful with anything else that hits them hard too.
Should I just drink more water? Does protein really cause trouble for the kidneys or is this a myth? Should I worry?

This.
This, and in the meantime, unless you are drinking ridiculous amounts of water (like well over 8-10 glasses a day), then more water can't hurt. Your body is well over 50% water, might as well replace that frequently.0 -

Hello, I took Topomax for awhile and didn't do well with them, however, you should def. see a Dr. concerning your Kidney's. Better safe then sorry. You could have a Kidney Infection going on that you aren't even aware of, or you may not be drinking enough water. Honestly, it could be several different things. If I were you I wouldn't wait very long to go though. Good luck and let us know how you turn out.

Yes, drink more water.
Yes, protein *can* cause kidney problems.
As for the worry part, well, I wouldn't worry too much, but I'd cut out the protein powder until you can get in to see your doctor.
I had a really hard time with protein powder. Not only did something in mine give me caffeine-like palpitations, I ended up with a nasty urinary tract infection. I used the protein powder daily for four or five days and the next day I had visible blood in my urine.
I no longer use protein powder, but I do try to eat 90-120g of protein every day and I have absolutely no problem. I guess I'm just one of those people who don't tolerate the powdered stuff.0 -
This is a potentially serious issue that should be addressed by a qualified medical professional. For the sake of your health, please see a doctor as soon as possible.0

Please, see your doctor about this. I had kidney stones once, went to doc for the pain and found out that I had a very serious kidney infection, also. She said that it could have progressed to the point of irreversible damage, leading to failure. Please, take this pain seriously. Take care!0

Yeah, you should be consulting a physician or specialist on the subject.

I've heard that doctors are a good resource for things like this.0

you should consult a urologist.
i go to one for my bladder and it's awesome. the problem i have and what i am diagnosed with i never would have guessed on my own0 -
Especially if you are on a medication that affects your kidneys, you should see a doctor about kidney pain. Do not try to to self diagnose yourself.0

Uhm right but before you see a urologist, see your primary. It might not even be your kidneys.0

Being careful includes contacting your doctor when you feel pain. Does not include consulting with random strangers on the internet.0 -
It doesn't hurt to urinate, my urine is quite pale and I drink nothing but water all day. At least 8 glasses a day if not more. I will go see the doctor this next week when I can. I just wanted to ask here in the meantime. I am smart enough to know that this isn't a replacement for a physician.0

...I thought you were a medical student?0

You claimed in your the master cleanse thread you were a medical student. You would have, free, access to the information and resources to answer this question if so.0 -
Maybe she shouldn't have tried that cleanse...0
