Newbie lifting advice for women, please?

Hiya, as the title reads, I want to get into lifting! I am pretty weak at the moment as far as lifting weights goes and I'd like to change that. I don't really have weights more then 8lbs at my house, so I'm going to be starting up a gym membership tomorrow (hence me asking this question, since they have *actual* heavy weights) and my brother and myself will be going together, which I'm excited about.
I was wondering, how many lbs should a beginner start with lifting? How many reps/sets for a beginner would you recommend? I'm sorry if this question has already been answered or asked or whatever. I was kinda hesitant to post on the forums but, meh, I need some advice. Be nice, please, thank you!

Start with what you can lift and work your way up as you get stronger. When I lifted I would do 3 sets with as many reps as I could squeeze out rotating your sets (biceps 1 set 15 reps) (triceps 1 set 15 reps) and then back to biceps and just repeat that cycle till you got your 3 sets done. The body parts you rotate through will really depend on how your gym has their machines set up. You don't want to work your biceps for a set and then walk halfway across the gym to work another muscle and then walk back to do the second set on biceps. What helped me decide on the amount of weight I would lift would be if I could do more then 10-15 reps with ease then the weights were to light. By the time you hit that last rep you want the muscle you're working to feel like it is at exhaustion. Anyway that was my routine.0
