Suggestions/Help?

Sorry if I'm repeating a question, did search the forums with no success;

I work in an office where you can literally hear a pin drop and even though I have breakfast and drink LOTS of water my stupid stomach seems intent on announcing itself to everyone. Can anyone suggest ways to quiet the beast? I usually have shredded wheat cereal for breakfast at 9am and lunch between 12-1pm. I've read online that stomach rumbles aren’t necessarily my body sayings it hungry, but just wondering if anyone could suggest anything to stop these embarrassing moments. - other than quickly rustling around my paperwork to cover the noise...i've got that one down!

Thanks in advance!

    I used to eat cereal for my usual breakfast (and often Shredded Wheat), and I can remember having the same issue with stomach rumbling. Since starting MFP, I've switched over to a higher protein breakfast (Greek yogurt and homemade granola). The whole thing comes in at about 350 calories, and I find I can make it to lunch (with a light snack of fruit around 10:30) without a problem. I have breakfast around 7:30. Beyond looking at breakfast itself, you might want to consider a snack before lunch. If you stick with the cereal, maybe you could get some protein in for the snack (cheese, peanut butter).

    Good luck.
  • Thanks for replying, I think I'm going to try switching breakfasts, homemade granola and yoghurt sounds fab, and see if it helps. If that doesn't work I might have to hire someone to work a power tool throughout the morning :)
  • It could be a dairy or wheat intolerance! x

    My stomach did the same thing the last few weeks! I honestly dont know what I did to stop it but it wasn't because I was hungry. I did read that it was something about air in the stomach and that water helps. I would just drink a lot of water when this happens and not only does that fill you up if you are hungry, it also gets rid of the growling.

    My pleasure. I've been eating it for months, and I still look forward to it every day.

    If you're interested in making the granola, I use Alton Brown's recipe--

    http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/granola-recipe/index.html

    --but I reduce the sugars (brown sugar and maple syrup) by half (3 tablespoons of each). One recipe, with a base of 3 cups of rolled oats, 1 cup of cashews, 1 cup of slivered almonds, 3/4 cup of sweetened coconut, and a cup of dried fruit (raisins/berries) lasts me about 3 weeks. One serving for me is about 1/3 cup (35g)--about 165 calories. It's an awesome recipe, and very modifiable.

    I also forgot--I usually add a tablespoon or so of ground flaxseed to the yogurt/granola. Boosts the protein a bit, plus adds a little fiber.

    I try to have either a protein smoothie or steel cut oats with almond milk. I am lucky to be flexible with my job to eat at my desk. I've actually been bringing all sorts of small meals in plasticware and eating every few hours. It seems I'm either hungry all the time or not hungry at all. ~ Terri
