Drink if you're thirsty or your urine is dark yellow, otherwise you'll be OK.

It doesn't have to be pure water either - any drink except alcoholic ones will do the trick.

Is there anything else you can drink like herbal tea of any sort, sparkling mineral waters without added anything preferably, decaf tea or decaf coffee, coconut water? You can also add things like I think in USA they call MIO or something to give the water some flavour but they do have artificial sweetner I believe but they have been proven to not be dangerous in moderation so maybe a mixture of all of these. Water with sliced fruit like lemons or limes too if you can tollerate that plus don't forget eat loads of fruit and veggies because they contain water too so it all counts. Stevia is a natual sweetener, tastes a bit odd buy you could use that in what you need.

Still try hard to drink water or plain sparkling water. No calories, no additives too/

I used to be the same - I was a diet pop fiend and the idea of drinking water was just outright horrible! It doesn't help that we're in a hard water area so tap water does have an aftertaste so I drink mineral water now and after a couple of weeks I didn't miss the pop at all.

It's been a couple of months now since I changed to water and I do feel better for it but that could be in combination with eating less and moving more :)

Yes, it's good for your skin too. I find drinking a pint of water before a meal stops me from over-eating because I feel fuller.

Water is of major importance to all living things; in some organisms, up to 90% of their body weight comes from water. Up to 60% of the human body is water, the brain is composed of 70% water, and the lungs are nearly 90% water. Lean muscle tissue contains about 75% water by weight, as is the brain; body fat contains 10% water and bone has 22% water. About 83% of our blood is water, which helps digest our food, transport waste, and control body temperature. Each day humans must replace 2.4 litres of water, some through drinking and the rest taken by the body from the foods eaten.

Yeah considering you are basically a walking water elemental I would say it is important...I would suggest looking up health benefits of drinking water and the health issues related to not drinking enough.

I am in the same boat with you. I have NEVER been a water drinker..ever. NOw I drink it like crazy. Mostly because It really does the trick for me when I am working out and I workout alot. But at first it was hard to swallow. So I would drink it with the little flavor packets of crystal light or mio. BUT artificial sweetners really do not sit well ith me and are bad for you on the long run. So I started making green tea.. Hot or cold or anyother kind of tea and I use truvia (natural sweetner) instead of sugar. It helps me get my water in even wehn I am not in the water tolarant mood. which still happens even though I actually drink water now! Another trick for me is when I drink water to have it FREEZING! Tons of ICE! Good luck! :flowerforyou:

Yes it is important. Water is essential to life and although you can also have other drinks you really should train yourself to drink water every day. Unless you're drinking from a dirty puddle water isn't exactly offensive although I admit that warm tap water can be pretty unpleasant in some places, but if it's chilled, filtered or has a bit of lemon in it becomes much more palatable. Try getting into the habit of at least having a glass of water with each meal even if you have another drink that you like as well. You will feel so much healthier and your skin will be better. And remember that it's free, has no calories and helps fill you up.

I will have to disagree with this one...A lot of drinks have a Diuretic effect such as caffeine, soft drinks, alcohol etc and negate the benefits of water.

And yes it is good to listen to your body, but my personal experience in the past is I rarely felt thirsty and waiting for your urine to become dark, well I think that is addressing the problem after the fact...prevention is always better than treatment.

This is just my humble opinion.

Are you dead? No? Then you must be getting fluids from somewhere. It's a good idea to have enough fluids in your day to keep your urine a very pale yellow but water isn't a necessity in it's pure form. Juice, coffee, tea, milk, soup, soda, even an apple is 85% water. The diuretic effect of caffeine in coffee, tea or soda is so minimal you don't need to worry about it negating what you drink.

Well, you'll certainly lose more weight if you drink water than if you don't. Your choice.

It's very important to drink water! It keeps you hydrated and prevents you from retaining excess water weight. The more water you drink, the less water your body feels it needs to retain to keep you properly hydrated. If you don't like drinking straight water, there are always the options with water with lemon or lime, and herbal teas. :)

sorry to bash your system, but green tea contains caffeine and causes you to be MORE dehydrated rather than less. I didn't know this, but realised it in practice when I was on a snowboarding holiday. I would be thirsty all the time and always drinking. I remember at breakfast, about about 9oz of water I would feel good. The moment I finished my cup of green tea I was parched again reaching for the water bottle and I didn't really realise it was the cause - until one of the staff there told me about it!

TBH, I used to hate water too. But I made myself have it and now I love it! Just suck it up and have it.. it'll make a world of difference. I used to have chronic migraines almost daily, and now that I am drinking well over 8glasses of water a day I get none!

edit; in regards to the caffeine thing not being true, I think it may not contribute to hydration loss, however to process it does require a lot of fluids in your body to be used...? Making you temporarily dehydrated...? I don't know, but I am so aware of it with my body! I get thirsty after tea now.

Not sure of the truth of below statements but it sounds right and I have been sticking to it for sure and I notice when I drink 10 to 12 cups of water a day I lose more weight so I say if you are serious about losing weight and just being healthier drink up.:flowerforyou: Find a way to like it even if you never love it.

    "From a Cardiac Specialist -

Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body:

2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs
1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion
1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure
1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack

Water at bed time will also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse."

If I am retaining fluid in my feet could drinking more make the problem worse?

I do drink a lot of water. My feet swell up quite badly from time to time but it's hard to pin down exactly what helps/hurts the situation diet wise.

Maybe I should have been more clear...the person who I quoted was talking about replacing water with substitutes, and yes caffeine in moderate amounts is unlikely to cause loss of fluids but if you are replacing water with 8 cups of caffeinated beverages this is no longer moderate thus causing the diuretic effect.
So not really a myth busted more a miscommunication on my behalf...Nice to be kept informed though thanks. :)
