HRM/bodybugg style device?

Hi Everyone
Not sure if I'm posting this in the right place so apologies if I'm not!
I fell in love with the bodybugg style hrm/calorie monitors but not the price and monthly contracts. I'd like to get one really, as my metabolism is definitely not working the way it should and I would like to be able to monitor my calories in and out a bit more accurately. I had a look at some other devices like the polar ft4. My only problem is that its a watch. I work in a hospital so I can't wear a watch at work due to infection control.
I've heard that the chest strap devices only require the strap and the watch just collects the data, and as such might not actually need to be worn but could be stored in a bag or on a belt?
I would really appreciate It if someone could shed some light on this for me please? And make any suggestions if they have them? Thanks!

Good morning!
Quick question, are you looking for a HRM that you can wear and monitor your heart rate all day long? I have a Poalr FT4, which I am in love with, but I only use it during workouts to track my heart rate. During the day, the chest strap is off and I just wear the watch. You could certainly keep the watch off and put it back on just during workouts, outside of work. So are you looking for an all day type HRM?0 -
Thanks for your reply!
Yes preferably an all day hrm, so that I know what my Calories are for whatever I'm doing rather than just my workout?0 -
Unfortunately, HRMs are only intended to be used while you are working out and your heartrate is elevated. They are fabulous for exercise but they are not designed for all-day use.
If you're looking for an all-day device, your choices are basically fitbit, bodybugg (which you have), or BodyMedia fit. The last 2 seem more sophisticated to me, they use more than just movement to estimate your calories.
Hope this helps!!0 -

As someone else has mentioned, the Body bugg, Body Media Fit or Fit Bit would be your best bet. I really don't find $6.00/month overly expensive...0 -

I'm in the UK so have to get the kifit rather than bodybugg or bmf as apparently I can't get one in the UK. Those are around £100 ($150) and the monthly subscription is about £15 ($30) a month. I really wouldn't mind if it was the equivalent of $6 but it doesn't seem to be :-/0

You're right. I'm in the UK too. Do you know a friend with a bank account with a USA address. If so , you could get a used BMF from eBay and then use the BMF website. Then you could get Link or Core model. The kifit is like the old BMF Advantage. Apparent,ynCore and Link aren't yet licenced in Europe.
I,still think its worth it though- you can get used kifit on eBay for about £50.0 -
I LOVE my Bodymedia LINK, and there are always sales going on that can help with the price, I got mine on Valentine Day at a steal thanks to a promotion they were running. I had the advantage before the LINK and I loved the equally which I bought off ebay.
As for the price the $6.99 is not really that steep for all the information you are going to get! You will be able to know EXACTLY how many calories you are burning throughout the day, and it is 90% accurate which is more accurate than the HRM. Also you will get 3 months free which helps with the price as well, and you can buy full year memberships for half the price off ebay as well.
HRMS are not really all the accurate to begin with, they estimate the calories burned based off the inflow of oxegyn between heart beats. I did an intense research on this after I bought my Bodymedia, because I found that the HRM was 200-300 calories more than the Bodymedia and I wanted to know WHY! Sure enough I found out why.
Here is my blog where I show some of the data from bodymedia:
