usually consists of a shirt that has too many stains and/or holes to be considered nice enough to wear in public without looking homeless, and black athletic shorts.
I feel that if I join a crowded gym I need to step up my apparel game.

Agreed. If if you are just going to sweat in them you feel better about yourself if you know you look good and when I wear new gym clothes it's always a motivator.
You can get something totally decent to work out in without spending a bunch of $$, check out Wal Mart, Targt or some online shops like Amazon. That's where I find great deals on workout clothes0 -
Don't care what you're wearing but come workout next to me

Nah....I workout in a crappy t-shirt and my gym shorts...so do most of the other guys at my gym. I do want to get a couple of those sweat wicking shirts though...cotton t-shirt sticking to me gets kind of annoying.0 -
I have a shirt with a major stain on it that I reserve only for workouts. Meh, I figure you're going to sweat it all up anyway. But some new duds might be a wonderful reward for yourself when you meet a particular goal!0

Nope, I'm not going to the gym to look cute. Clothes don't make me feel good about myself. Driping in sweat and increasing my weight lifted does.0

It's great to shop out of season for workout clothes also, so what I mean is buy summer clothes at the end of the warm season and winter clothes at the end of the cold season. I run outside a lot so this is more vital to me than when working in the gym. Sports Authority has great sales too!0
