Heart Rate Monitor

Well, I have been gaining weight lately instead of losing despite eating the right amount of calories, so I am thinking maybe myfitnesspals overestimates the amount of calories I burn. Do you think a heart rate monitor would be a good way to find out more accurately how many calories I burn and this, how many I should eat? If so, do you have any reccomendations of heart rate monitors that are the most accurate? Thanks!

it cant hurt to have a HRM, they are accurate and help keep you on track for your burn each day and/or week.
i like Polar brand0 -
BodyMedia has one that you wear all the time and it was used on the biggest loser too! I have heard nothing but good stuff about it. So, I actually just ordered one myself. I lost 5lbs then went on vacation and gained it all back plus some. Granted I know I didn't eat healthy or exercise but I did enjoy my vacation. Now I gotta get on track again.0

This is the one I have:

I'd love to have a polar but it's just not within my budget right now. The one I have seems pretty accurate though. (I say this because I did have a defective sportline hrm which would say I was burning 600 + calories in 20 mins.)0 -
this is what happened to me. i bought a polar FT04 and have had no problem loosing. ::)0

Accuracy depends on the method used to calculate the calories. I use an Garmin Edge 800 when mountain biking that is fairly accurate (for non lab equipment) but its certainly not at the budget end of the market. If you aren't in a hurry, watch for the Polar FT4 model (for women) to go on sale at Sears.com
I got mine for $44.99 and was lucky enough to find one in a local store, so I didn't have to pay for shipping.
Right now, they are full price. But I've seen them on sale one time since I got mine a couple months ago.
