Exercise for the wheezy!

I've pretty much sat and watched by butt spread since I contracted bronchitis six weeks ago. One course of antibiotics later, I'm over the infection but I'm still coughing myself awake every half an hour at night, and during the day I have that really irritating cough that sounds like you're making it up.

As Monty Python like to say, "I am no longer infectious" and don't have a temperature or anything, just this annoying cough, and I'm really keen to get back into working out, but I'm severely restricted in what I can do. I'm OK walking, but I can't run even short distances, swim, cycle, do exercise DVDs, lift anything heavy, or basically do anything that makes me out of breath.

I'm looking to start back at doing something, anything, at home this week. Can you think of some bodyweight, Barbie weight or resistance band exercises that won't make me breathless that I can put together into a little routine just to get me back into the habit?

And before my internet mums chime in, yes I am going back to the doctor

Thanks! :flowerforyou:

Ooh, hadn't thought of digging out my yoga and Pilates DVDs, that would be perfect, thanks you! The yoga breathing will probably help in its own right.

Great suggestion. Easy pilates and gentle yoga are always my go-tos when I am not up for an intense workout. I would stick with that and some nice, long walks until you are truely on the mend. Hope you feel better soon.

It also means I don't have to put on shoes or a sports bra. Bonus!

Do you have an albuterol inhaler for this bronchitis? I sometimes need to use mine before I exercise, along with a much longer, more gradual warm-up than most people need.

I've got a Ventolin inhaler for my asthma, which I believe is albuterol, that the doctor told me to use to relieve the bronchitis wheezing. To be honest it doesn't seem to have much effect as it's crap on my lungs rather than constriction. But I'll take you advice and use it before exercise and have a long warm up, thanks! :flowerforyou:

You're reminding me of how much I hate the crud of bronchitis. Besides exercise, there's always hot showers, and eating a lot of steamy soup broth. I hope you feel better soon.

Dug out my old Pilates video. At 25 minutes it was about the same as 30DS, but by the end I was thinking, "Is that it?" rather than, "Please God, make it stop" Also there was a lot of lying down, which makes me cough. At least I got moving, I'll work my way through the options! Doctors tomorrow, so might get a solution.
