Eat, Fast and Live Longer

there seems to be a lot of discussion about two fasting plans. In one, you fast two days a week and consume no more than 500 calories in each of those two days. The other days you eat normally.
the other plan is to eat all your calories in an 8 hour period and fast for 16 hours each day.
These both came from a program in which the science behind these two ideas were explained and seemed to be compelling. Michael Mosley - Eat, fast and live longer-can be seen on PBS.
Is it wishful thinking or could this work? Does anyone have any experience?

Yes it works. If you're interested in exploring more, check out the Intermittent Fasting group on MFP: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/66-intermittent-fasting
There's also a great FAQ there which I recommend reading: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/599982-intermittent-fasting-faq
I'm a practitioner and it helped me break through my weight loss plateau.0 -
There doesn't really seem to be any evidence at all that meal timing in any fashion affects weight loss or lean mass retention to any significant degree. If you like IF, by all means do it; it won't hurt anything. But there's no reason to think eating that way is different, let alone better, than eating the same foods on a more normal schedule.0

It has other benefits than just loss. That's why I personally dig it...0
