As I have a lot of weight to lose, I am concerned I will end up with lots of excess skin? Has anyone had this happen?
Is there anyway of it being reduced?
Thanks

Well, it can be removed if you have hundreds of thousands of dollars for cosmetic surgery, but since most of us don't, your best bet is to lose the weight at healthy pace and exercise to tone up. I don't know if you have ever seen shows like "The Biggest Loser" but those people lose massive amounts and although you may see a very small amount of excess skin, it isn't overly noticeable.0

I agree, lose weight at a healthy pace and exercise and tone it, I am doing just that, making sure I'm toning as I go, my arms are toning and my lower belly is slowly tightening up. We just have to remember to be patient, all good things come with time, hardwork and determination. Good luck with your weight loss!0

Your skin is elastic and the cells are constantly being replaced so eventually it will "shrink". There are some factors that will hinder it however [age, hydration, if you are a smoker/non smoker... etc.] Building muscle will give your skin something to adhere to as the fat disappears. But you need to be patient.
However, sometimes the excess skin can cause health issues [rashes, infections, etc.] In that case, depending on your insurance it may cover the removal. But don't plan on this route... better to lose it slow to give your skin time to adjust and plan to add some strength training into your exercise regimen.0 -
I've lost quite a bit, but slowly...my skin has tightened up, no sagging.0

I lost 80# before MFP & it was over 2 years. But BC I did mostly aerobics, unfortunately, I do have that extra skin (some not a lot). I am lifting a low amount of weights & find that its not as bad as it used to be & I'm happy to report the skin is firming up!!! I can't help but wonder how much weight that extra skin accounts for ... (10, maybe 15#)??0
