New Weight Routine - Rest or Keep Going?

I started a new weight routine last night. I've been doing strictly cardio, so by new, I mean NEW.

Today, I was sore, but not so sore I couldn't do anything. It's what I call "pleasantly sore", when you know you got a good workout but can still function and don't cringe when you move. It feels awesome when I stretch. :)

I was going to do it again tonight, but should I let my muscles rest, or is it okay to workout as long as I stop if I feel true pain?

I use "The Firm" workout DVDs, and it's an all-over workout. Would it be better to do arms one day, legs the next, etc, and keep varying them so each muscle group gets a chance to rest? Or am I okay to work my arms, legs, etc every day?

Work 1 muscle group a day. give at least 2 days rest in between. Like for instance, Sunday I did legs..tomorrow is Wednesday so I am doing them again. Don't work the same body part 2 days in a row. Start slow, finish big..

    you will do fine.

if your muscles are sore the next day, then you need a rest day, from weights at least. some light cardio is ok, followed by a full body stretch or at least the muscles that are sore ;-) they do need time to recover.

I am doing 3x/week of 9-12 full-body compound exercises. The rest of the days I do cardio at the gym. I take 1 day off per week. I found trying to come up with ways to work different body parts like "back and bi's" difficult and I'd lose interest. I can at least stay focused now.
