Hi! I've been talking to a friend of mine and he's told me that he follows this such diet. I have never given much thought to it, but he says that after about a 7-10 day period he experienced what he describes as "the fog lifting" and having much more clarity. He abstains from alcohol, bread(of any kind, even bread crumbs) and processed white flour products. Any thoughts, ideas or experiences anyone has would be greatly appreciated!

I do not eat any refined sugar per say or white flour and your friend is right, the fog lifts, so to speak and you feel so much better. I read labels. I eat more natural, and raw foods. Such as fruits and veggies.. lots of salads and protien. I do eat one slice of whole wheat bread a day or whole wheat crackers.. both with out sugar in them.
I also dropped 10lbs the first week not eating the sugar and the celulite just went away.

I don't eat anything enriched, bleached, or fortified. I very rarely eat white sugar (once in a great while I'll use for baking). When I buy bread products, they have to be sugar free and whole grain. I use wheat germ instead of bread crumbs for breading purposes. http://nutrition.suite101.com/article.cfm/nutritional_benefits_of_wheat_germ

Thanks for all the good feedback! The wheat germ sounds like a great alternative! My two biggest problem areas are going to be alcohol since I am very involved with the craft ale scene in my area and pizza. But I do know of a place that now makes a whole wheat pizza for a moment of weakness or special treat :)

I gave up grains for GOOD in April and haven't had white sugar or even raw sugar or artificial sweeteners for a long while and I no longer have brain fog either.

When I gave up all grains the joint pains that the doctors were calling Arthritis have also went away..................

I have done this in the past and generally follow this now. It makes me feel less foggy. Once you get past the first few days of cravings and obsession over sugar (oops, maybe that was just me) you feel so much better in the end.

    Yes.
It's really the same as a low GI diet or South Beach even (although South Beach is a no carb diet, not really low GI).
I couldn't give up pizza either, so I found my own whole wheat crusts at the grocery store and make it myself.
It's not as good (read fattening LOL) as Domino's or Pizza Hut, but it's still pizza and much healthier.

Atkins and South Beach are NOT no Carb diets................They are CONTROLLED carb Lifestyle plans.

The only NO carb plan is called Zeroing in on Health, which is actually a NO carb plan.............They don't even want to be compared to as a similar plan to Atkins or South Beach.

Espcially on Atkins. Atkins uses a "carb ladder" to add back in carbs according to their GI ranking..................

I follow a controlled carb lifestyle and I still have pizza. I make a mean cauliflower crust or if we are having deep dish pizza, I make a deep dish crust from cream cheese, parmesan cheese and an egg.

I avoid all white breads/flour/[pastas ...not because I WANT to..haha..but because my stomach can't really handle processing white bread, anytime I ate it I would feel sick and bloated so I just cut it out totally, now it's only whole grain stuff....which ya, isn't really that hard because everything comes in a whole grain version...just gotta be careful of the "whole wheat" gimmic....where it "says" whole wheat but that means white flour as well! I could never totally give up carbs...well, I can tell you what happens if I do, it's every other diet I tried to be on that failed miserably....so, converting to whole grain was great for my body and I don't feel like I'm giving anything up. Not to bash anyone who has given it up...seriously, kudos to you, I just know myself from experience I don't have that in me!
