P90X and goals questions

Hi All
I'm about to start p90x soon and have a few questions, I've calculated that my energy amount is 2796. This means i'm at level 2 and should have 2400 calories a day.
how accurate is the 600 calories suggested per day for the workout? I'm going to get a heart rate monitor as this seems to be the most accurate way of working out calories burned.
I've been using the calorie counter on here recently and it's really opened up my eyes as to how much I have been eating and more importantly the way the food breaks down into carbs protein etc, and i want to carry on using it.
Should I set my calorie goal at 1800 then add on the calories burned to exersise so that its re-calculated daily? or is it better to have the same amount of calories everyday? And just set the calorie goal to 2400.

I'm on the second month of P90X. I have my daily amount set to a 1000 calorie deficit / lose 2 per week. I log my exercise based on my HRM then eat back about 70% of those calories sometimes more. So far I have had the energy to keep working out and still getting the results.0

600 is just an average...and I don't know what it's based on but it can seriously vary. I would really recommend getting one as soon as possible so you don't become undernourished or stall your weight loss from eating too much. Good luck! P90X has great results. I'm only doing the Ab Ripper X as I don't have a lot of time to put into the whole program but I love even just that!! I can tell it's really working. Keep it up!0

I started last week. Don't feel discouraged if you can't do the whole thing, it is very very had thing to do. If you are exhausted stop, I know I did the first times I did the tapes.
Do the 2400 calories a day and the estimate of 600 calories burned is very on. This will kick your butt. If you ahve questions, contact me. Don't eat back your calories on this, and trust me when I say this.... EAT ALL OF YOUR CALORIES. because your body will need it!!!

I've done 3 rounds and I found the 600 calories/workout to be misleading. The only time I got a 600 calorie burn was during PlyoX when i absolutely pushed myself 110% and skipped rope between circuits while Tony was talking (averaged just over 500 for plyo x). For KenpoX, I averaged 450-500, strength workouts around 350 (another 90-100) with ab ripper thrown in.0

My results were like glfprncs2 as well. 600 calories may be possible if you take no breaks at all and push yourself to the maximum every single second of the workout, and only for the cardio based workouts, not the strength training. The only way I can burn over 600 calories is if I work out for at least an hour, which for me would be an Insanity workout followed by a 2.5 mile jog. I think 600 calories in 30-45 minutes is very hard to do if you're taking regular breaks.
I use a Polar F11 heart monitor, by the way, which includes a chest strap.0 -

work out how many calories a week using a HRM I burn on p90x then divide it by 7 and add that to my RMR and daily activity burn.
That should tell me how many calories I need per day, I also want to loose some weight so drop that number by 350 for about 3/4lb a week weight loss.

Don't forget that the nutrition guide which puts you at level II (2400 calories) assumes that you are at or near your target weight. If you're not, then you might want to create a little more of a calorie deficit. I wouldn't go all the way down to 1800 (level I) , but maybe experiment with somewhere between 2000 and 2200 and see how you feel.
P90X is a very extreme workout and if you undereat, you will really sabotage your results. The food is what really will fuel your body throughout the 90 days. Listen to your body. If you feel hungry at the lower level, go ahead and add an extra 100 -200 calories. That could make all the difference in the world.0
