This is a very interesting topic I just thought of now. Simply, as the topic puts it, do you know which event of historical significance happened the year you were born?

I was born in 1981 and the historical event I know of that took place that year was the launch of the space shuttle Columbia.

To stay on the "space" theme here, in the year I was born (1966), Star Trek debuted on television.

You forgot another historical event that took place in 1990, probably the most historical event of that year. The release of Nelson Mandela from prison, which paved the way for downfall of Apartheid in South Africa 4 years later.

Well my favorite event was that the Garfield comic strip first appeared in national publications on the very day that I was born.

    Coincidentally, that was 78.
