Hahaha wow some people are so gullible. But I swear by the foot pad, it really works. I had less toxins than the day I was born

That's proof enough for me. I'm jumping on this bandwagon ASAP. That photo of the starving gentleman has really inspired me.

My mom fell for the electric foot bath thing, she was all amazed...and then I had to explain to her chemistry.

Only time detoxing works is when you're arrested for DUI and thrown in the slammer.

Just because the market is full of shysters doesn't mean detoxing or cleansing doesn't work. Most people are unwilling because it's a big change in diet for them. They should still be eating the same amount of calories.

No, that doesn't mean they don't work.

The fact that they're stupid and don't do anything means they don't work.

    How would you know anything?

They can be life changing and saving to people with medical conditions that don't have a cure yet besides by changing the diet. Doctors will give drugs that treat the symptoms but usually have side effects when it can easily be reversed by food.

Thank you for posting this video. I know many people that Detox their bodies by juicing or fasting once a month. They spend lots of $$$ too! As a medical professional I have explained to them about your liver and kidneys and how they work. I will try having them watch this video.....Probably won't change their minds. maybe I'll charge them for my advice since they like spending so much $$$ :)

My mother in law did the SAME THING! I still don't think she believes me that it's not actually cleaning out her whole body...

i guess the issue is that ... yes, cleansing and detoxing does "work" in the sense that if you typically eat a SAD and then go on a cleanse where you eat nothing but fruits and veggies or ... whatever... inherently you're going to have more energy, you're going to feel better, etc, etc. frankly, you're going to feel the same way you would if you transitioned to a healthful whole food diet. from THAT standpoint, they're absolutely snake oil if they're assuming most people will go back to eating like **** so the cycle will repeat itself over and over and over.

HOWEVER the one thing they can be useful for is to jumpstart a new healthier lifestyle. When you realize how much better you COULD be feeling when compared to when you were eating a SAD, it can be enough to make you realize that a major change is in order. Obviously that doesn't happen often, and maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part....

so while you're right that they're no magic bullet, and many claims are overstated, and the marketing is predatory... i think under the right circumstances, and if you're working with a nutritionist/trainer/coach/whatever, they can be useful.

    ...what is a SAD?

    ...what is a SAD?

    Standard American Diet.

Reddy thinks that switching temporarily from a "standard" diet to one like his automatically means more energy and feeling better. This is generally contrary to the truth; any major diet change, especially one that goes from being heavy on simple carbohydrates to one that is higher in fiber, fat, protein, and complex carbs generally causes a period of gastrointestinal distress while the gut flora adjust. Often this is accompanied by excess gas, etc.

Look at you putting words in my mouth. Yep, there's an adjustment period. Big deal. That a problem?

    Here's what you said:

"cleansing and detoxing does "work" in the sense that if you typically eat a SAD and then go on a cleanse where you eat nothing but fruits and veggies or ... whatever... inherently you're going to have more energy, you're going to feel better, etc, etc."

Your core claim is that "cleansing and detoxing work in the sense that.... you're going to have more energy, you're going to feel better." Cleanses and detoxes don't last for the weeks that would be required for your body to adjust to a radically new diet.

Suddenly eating nothing but fruits and veggies won't automatically make someone currently eating a "standard American diet" feel better.

I understand what you mean by using them to "jumpstart" a new lifestyle, though I hope you'd agree that they aren't actually clearing out toxins. Maybe this works for some. In the short term, it does seem rather unpleasant. Kind of a discouraging way to kick off a lifestyle change. And I worry about the longer term cleanses, where, sure, you lose weight, but a good chunk is probably muscle. And the speed at which it's lost may want to make them do it again.

    But I see your point.

I believe that if people are naive, gullible, easily deceived or just plain dumb, they get what they deserve. I work at a car dealership, I'm gonna start a parts solvent cleanse......or maybe miracle tire shine cleanse.......or a WD-40 detox. I Can lie and rip people off and get rich too!

appreciate that. i see yours as well. as with everything it's not a simple black + white, good or bad kind of thing... everything comes with caveats.
