Today would've been my mom's 52nd birthday, BUT...

She died on November 3, 2005, of a massive heart attack. She weighed over 300 pounds and smoked 3 pack of cigarettes per day. She is my main motivation for losing weight. I weighed 245 pounds when she died. Since then, I've lost over 90 pounds (with two pregnancies in there too  ). I turned this tragic event into a positive. I feel SO great now, and I think I look a lot better too.

Here is a picture of me at probably my heaviest (actually 260ish)...

And this is me around 155 pounds or so just a few weeks ago...

Our mothers are resting easy knowing we are working towards a better life for ourselves through eating and exercise. As a mom, I want better for my kids than what I had........so I know our moms are the same.

Keep up the great work Amy. You are a sweet caring person that I just adore

Thanks for posting this. I lost my mom to cancer almost a year ago (7/23) and this really got me today. A few years before her diagnosis, she was on a super health kick and had lost a ton of weight by simply changing her eating habits and walking in the mall 5 days a week. She was down to hear goal weight for only a short time before she started losing weight uncontrollaby due to her illness. Any time I start ignoring my health, I can hear her voice talking about "empty calories" or "portion sizes". Your mom would be SO PROUD of you. You look great. Congratulations and keep up the good work!

You are an incredibly strong and positive influence.

Some people would fall into depression with what you went through and go in the opposite direction, but for you to turn it around and use it to make a positive change in your life is so, well, magnificent.

Congratulations on what you've done, your children are so lucky to have a mother like you.

My mom also was 52 when she died. She smoke 2 to 3 packs a day and never exercised. She was probably about 60 pounds overweight. She was just under 5 ft and weighed about 170 when she got sick. She also was a diabetic.

But she was brilliantly smart, very witty and fun and everyone loved her including me. So I do understand your motivation, it is mine also. I can't wait until I have lost as much as you, and I will get there. WTG you look great.

Boy can I relate to your story, my mom passed away 2 1/2 years ago from all the complications that come from obesity. I miss her terribly, but I know how proud she is of me for making the changes in my life that I needed so I could be heathy. I know your mom is smiling from heaven about all your success and is very proud of you.

Thank you for telling this story. You've made it crystal clear what all this effort is really about. Your children won't have to tell the same story about you and I'm sure that is making your Mom very proud.

Just wanted to add this from today...

I had a powerful moment during my workout tonight, I was doing Turbo Jam Punch/Kick/Jam tonight, and there's this part where the instructor tells you to think of something you're passionate about while you're doing these strong punches and "throwing someone down." I started thinking about my mom, and I got pissed that she was never able to meet Ava and Gabe. She never met my nephew and niece either, as my nephew was born three days after she died. She never got to hear Gabe's silly little giggle, or see Ava shrug her one shoulder when she gets a deep thought, or see Aiden play in a t-ball game. Damn her for not taking care of herself! She never got to experience the joy of my children or my sister's children. Tears overcame me during my workout, but I was able to persevere, like I've done for almost five years now.
